5 GT Turbo Ignition Issue Phase 2 1990

Hey guys , Currently owning a ph.2 GTT trying to save it . So the thing is .. I have an issue when trying to boost . It’s like something cuts off and holds the car not to boost . First thought was the fuel pump which I changed it along with the fuel filter.
I did have a repaired carb , sparks , leads ,dizzy cap and rotor , alternator (silicone hoses and stuff)etc.
So after a small ride ,the car after it gets hot it misfires and even stalls and you can’t start it up again . It cranks but won’t start .
So after this , the car cranks starts and immediately shuts down .
Any thoughts ? Would it be the AEI UNIT , or the bottom part of the distributor ??

There arent many bits left you can change here.

I would try with bridging your fuel pump relay ( cartier unit - under the dash ) to rule that out. Mine did a similar thing.

Then its the AEI as you pointed out.

You either have no fuel or spark if its cutting out. Need to narrow it down.

Wont be distributor bottom, they never fail.

At a guess its tdc sensor failing or fuel pump relay issue as Andy said.

If rev counter moves when cranking/not starting, tdc sensor is working.

Alright guys thanks . Revs working when cranking so I guess tdc working . How can you bridge the fuel relay ? Is it under the dash with all other relays ?

Relay is under the dash, yes.

It’s a black unit if OE and marked CARTIER on it in white lettering

So i have to bridge the two opposite sides ?

I had the wiring for the overboost switch intermittently shorting out causing a similar issue years ago. if its bridged/shorted the car wont spark

What I did today was wiring the fuel pump plug . I did wire yellow to white so fuel pump works only with ignition on . I let it run for a little , then the fuel light comes on and I hear a louder sound . When I turn the car on . It tries to idle but it can’t this is how the wiring looks like . Something is going on I guess . It doesn’t seem OEMrelay

What did the case of the relay look like?

Ok , so lets start with the basics.

On your carb there is a fuel inlet. Grab a plastic container and detach the tube and place it in the container.

Crank the car over and see if it starts to shoot fuel into the container.

We can then rule out the fuel pump , and relay if it works.

I’ve checked it a few days ago and it squirts fuel . But why does the yellow and purple cable are connected together ? Any idea ? The fuel pump relay seems to be repaired some time ago as I can understand by the picture

Does the car have an alarm/immobiliser? I recall when I chopped out an immobiliser on my phase1 that there were similar wires.

Curious if that is why there are two purples.

Its been years since I had mine apart I just cannot remember the colours or the bridge to do!

Does the car attempt to start and then die? Or does it just never fire properly?

It does start and then dies immediately, mind blowing issue really
