idle is to fast

Hi all, got a19 16v which idles at 1200 rpm what could the cause be .thanks

Throttle Position Sensor
Its on the side of the throttle body

Agreed.

TPS could be the cause if you have messed around with the throttle body and it has not been setup correctly. If the tps was the problem you would probably notice it throughout the rev range, not just idle.

Might also be worth changing the coolant temp sensor.

Umm, might want to check for vacuum leaks as well.

when started from cold mine will idle at 1100/1200 till the engine gets slightly warm after which it drops down a bit, on operating temp its usually maybe 600-800 or so

Thanks guys. The problem is only noticeably when idling so where is the coolent temp sensor located.I will replace it.

right hand side of the head, its bolted to a bracket and has to pipes coming of it

Replaced violent sensor' its not that .waste of £12. Next is the iscv thingy.
