Iceburg Ph1 #433 EG02 JJO on ebay

It's a nice looking car, unusually being auctioned. It was a Cat D, so should be interesting to see how buyers react.
Did you have this car at one time James?
If anybody knows what sort of damage the car sustained I would be interested to know, as a mate is quite keen to get a Ph1 sub-£10k.

Interesting that the last owner (markal) noted in the V6 Register has the following as one of his interests:
"Restoring early British fibreglass cars mainly Tvrs"

As such, one would hope that this Vee must have been repaired to a good standard.

Seems like the same seller has a Titanium Phase 2 for sale as well: LINK

Saw a picture with them both the other day:

Yes, its James old ph1 Mark, have seen it in various states over the years since it was repaired. Thats the nicest its looked!

The status would put some buyers off, but not those willing to look past it to get a bargain.

It will also matter less and less as the years pass.

It wouldnt put me off a T2 if i found out it was written off 20 years ago, but had been repaired and running for the last 18 years.

#288 looks a bit scrap yardy for £33K
Advert says "Car is in immaculate original condition", so may be it was only in for paintwork. If so, then it is rather unfortunate that #288 got photographed (see above) when it did.

To be fair the cat D was a shameful blot on its history. The plastic side panels were torn off to reveal what was already an ugly sight behind them.

+£5k for the famous first owner I reckon. ;)

Looks like the (firm) asking price for Phase 1 #433 is £11,495: eBay

Phase 2 #288 is now up for bidding: eBay

Would be interesting to see what the highest bid is going to be..........

The curse of the Cat D seems to continue with EG02JJO. It has sold twice now, but both buyers have dropped out, and now it's back on ebay in a no-reserve auction.

[v6plaque]433[/v6plaque] now listed on eBay for £13,995: LINK

"Just reduced to £13995 for quick sale as the drive is overflowing!"

"I bought it at the auction with no service history booklet but with a full folder of the invoices for services and other work done...."

Seems like it never got past £10,000 before, but, according to the advert on Pistonheads, the seller bought [v6plaque]433[/v6plaque] at auction for £12,700.......so would be interesting to see how it fares this time around.

No mention of 'CAT D' status in this listing.....

Long termers who have bought cat Ds are more likely than not going to chuckle at most of us in the future when the catorgory means bugger all as mentioned above. They are no different to cars that have under gone poor or even well executed modifications and been put back to standard for originality reasons. Hence I'm not really all that fussed what mine is worth but am adament in enjoying the car. Eventually, as stated above, people and collectors don't give a monkeys so long a the shell and chassis is structually straight snd true.

Spoke to the owner last night and he is under the impression that the Cat D may be due to 'stolen recovered' as the door and ignition keys are all different and was surprised when it was mentioned! Should be joining up shortly to see what info there is on his car! :approve: Seems an honest and genuine enough person!

It also had an accident in 2012 and had the front end replaced. looked a bit wonky behind the bumper:

this photo below is from earlier this year, was still missing a few parts from the front end.

Judge on condition now of course, but I'd rather walk into it with my eyes open if it were me buying it.

The last time this car sold on ebay (19th Sep 2015) it went for £10k, and it was advertised at a Cat D. The chap selling it currently says he bought it for £12700 and spent a further £900 on it, and has a classified advert price of £14k. And no mention of the Cat D. So has the car had a couple of owners since September? Something doesn't add up.

The front end damage certainly isn't structural, but I'd want to see photos of how well it was repaired, or have the bumper removed, before handing over any cash.

All in all I can't see it selling for any more than it did in September, and the longer it's on the market with different stories the less likely it is to sell at all.
