OK guys, I need help already! After fitting a K Tec back box on Saturday the car was running lovely. Its a 3 yr old 230. Today after a 5 minute gentle drive the car started sounding like it was on 5 cylinders. The exhaust sounded louder and low down it sounded like a V8 TVR. No warning lights came up but it was definately missing and holding back (sounded gorgeous mind). Got the car home, parked it up and went back an hour later to check it over.....still misfiring with a lumpy tickover at 500rpm and now the exhaust emission light is flashing, though not staying on permanent. Manual says drive at reduced speed to Renault. But I'll be fooked if I am letting Renault Croydon look at it. Anyone had this experience. Is it the new exhaust or has a plug jumped off? I figured if it was electrical the other engine management light would have come on. Scared to drive it on a misfire incase something melts or I burn the cat out. Over to you guys.....

...would have preferred it if you had both said a lead had jumped off!!! Thanks guys - is it accessible or did the hide it. Knowing my luck it will be an engine out job.
Probably take it to R Sport in Wimbledon as I have known them a while. Anyone know the book time and rough price of coil?

Coils are about £50 each. easy to change on Mk2 but hard work if it is under the manifold on a Mk1. You can do it yourself. Just swap out the old for your new one until it sounds right again.
If you can afford it buy a complete set of Trophy coils which are the same price each, but much better, you'll need new connectors wired on but they're only a couple pounds.

Thanks hog. I feel a group buy coming on.

I think I may have started something!

Definately interested tho. Price dependant!

Not needed any coils...... yet.

Keep me informed! I like the sound of a group buy!
Although, other than reliability what are the other benefits? If any?

Interested too in the group buy, but is it a hassle to fit all 6 on the car?

There's no v6 specialists anyway near Scotland, and I don't know if I would like any old garage to fit them if they have never seen a v6 before.

No point in a group buy.

RS at Wibledon keep 6 in stock, then re - order as required.

Can take up to if I remember correctly 4 - 6 weeks delivery.

Problem now is that France shuts down for holidaysn shortly.

Come up to Aberdeen and I will do it for you - I loved changing mine! Gets you closer to the V6 :D
Easy enough to do - remove all the engine bay trim, engine cover and inlet manifold - it's finding the buggerd one thats the problem. I now have a code reader and this tells me :)

Hopefully another coil will go soon so I can get my hands drity!!

Thats ace Rennie. I might just take you up on that if I ever do order Trophy coils. :)

yeah sounds like a group buy would be a good idea i am well up for buying some trophy coils heard they are much better.

I think I've just got the same problem. Went to start it and sounded a bit chuggy for a minute but then seems OK so I drove it down the road. The warning light on the RHS (yellow engine) is on permanently so I rang Ren garage and they told me to get it trailered to them so they can put it on their diagnostic kit.
My question is can I drive the car with this light on or can it damage it if the coil was on its way out? The engine sounds OK when I start it.

Yep it was a coil that wasn't working. Renault garage in Kidlington (N Oxford) was excellent and very helpful.

clio cup vs std coils what the difference? Is it a good upgrade in any event? S
