High idle

|sAs|

Well-Known Member
I got the car working yesterday.. Replaced the water temp sensor and some hoses..

The problem now is that it idle's at around 1400.. What is a likely cause of that?

Things that have been checked/replaced:
O2-sensor replaced with new
TPS replaced with a used one
Spark plugs replaced, leads and coils checked
Vacuum hose to MAP and fuel pressure regulator replaced
Air hose to rocker ventilation(?)..

It's quite stable at 1400rpm and it doesn't vary with temperature..

Also, why is there a plug in the MAP-sensor hose? just about a mm opening?

Car is still a ph3 quaddie..

High idle can be the TPS incorrectly set.

Mine was a bitch to set. I slackened a screw , and waggled the bloody thing up and down till I got a stable idle . I assume you dont have hte engine management light on the dashboard ?

There is also a small idle screw that is adjustable. Its below the throttle cable on the nearside ( Left hand side ) where it meets the throttle housing.

Its a small ( 6mm ? ) bolt that slackens , you can then reduce / increase the idle with that ..

The TPS came from a car complete with TB and hasn't been messed with according to OllieR on here..

I have my original TB that I can mess around with, but I don't want to touch this one..
No engine light on the dash..

Thanks, I'll try that..

No engine light = ok TPS.

It will be the idler that I mentioned then ..

Might be, it is quite old after all :icon_wink:

What vacuum pipes are there other than the one to fuel pressure regulator and MAP?

There' 3-4 small pipes coming off the top of the manifold and a larger 1 thats from the idle speed valve that is under the manifold

I'll spray some plus gas or what you call it around the area to make sure it doesn't have any leaks.. :D
