My Tungsten Mk1 is back on the road having finally beaten the rear brake demons however just before the MOT the engine cut out and magically restarted 10 minutes later. During the MOT again it just stopped no spark but 10 minutes later all was well. I changed the crank sensor and hoped for the best. Last night (after driving it round all day) at 8.30 (while I am still working) the good lady rang the XXXX..... car was stopped in Sainsburys car park! She got a lift home and later when we went to bring it back again it started right up no bother. Any good ideas of where to look first please?

Try another ecu mate, I had exactly the same problem with a golf vr6 a few years ago, changed every sensor etc and no joy! Changed the ecu and it cured it.
Just an idea that might be worth trying.

I have 2 ph1 ecu's, both chipped tho. One is prima racing and the other unknown brand but work for std set up, drop me a pm if your stuck

I have checked all the leads etc when it goes dead there is no spark from the coil. I have chipped ecu fitted and standard ecu as a spare I will fit that one. If the ecu is at fault I would be looking for another "chipped" one. Is there a camshaft sensor on this engine please? My local mobile mechanic looked it up on his database and it said to check the cam sensor. I didnt realise there was one... is there?

i had the same problem sometime ago i cleaned all the engine earths to the body and it cured the prob, before that a changed ignition module but still happened try it out

regards

I ran it on the drive yesterday untill it stopped - no spark. I swapped the ecu and it still didnt work. I then checked the connections on the coil pack. The 2 black plugs were clean but the single white that goes to earth through the capacitor looked very dirty. I cleaned up the spade terminal and changed the connector on the wire and ran a wire from where it earths on the chassis back to the battery and it started right up and hasnt stopped yet!! I have left it for my good lady to take out today with the kids........if its going to stop today it will once they are all aboard. Thanks once again for everyones help. I hope my mobile mechanic doesnt need to come out and change the cam shaft sensor it will be a fortune of labour if is he is looking for one thats not there.
