Clarkie,
According to Scott and others it is a Pk 6 with different ratios. As fitted to the traffic master.

Any help / costings much appreciated!

Peter

I'd go the warranty route - tell them you have no money as your redundant when it goes in and you won't spend a penny outside warranty!

Cunning. I like it! 8)

i will look into it mate...try renault 1st you got nothing to lose..

But they will say "there is nothing we can do without taking it apart to have a look". Then I am stuck with the car in bits with them and no chance of a rebuild.

I will call them on Monday tho. :?

Peter

Since your car is still under warranty then you should assert that this is a warranty job ... assuming the car has been serviced to schedule then Renault would/should have to be able to prove that the clutch repair was responsible for the synchro problem which it isn't!

It looks as if they allow 6.1 hours to remove, repair and refit. Its not exactly clear if the removal and refit is included.

It would seem 5.7 hours to remove gearbox.

Just remember it is Renault that decides whether its an authorised warranty repair or not - not the dealer. If a clutch failure led to a bell housing repair - even Renault would acknowledge a repair is cheaper than a new casing and gearbox rebuild - there is no way any of the debris from this can have entered the gearbox.
The route will be - roadtest - yep syncro gone - gearbox out - cost of repair vs new, which is cheapest - new - put new box in. I do not believe they will strip the box to check the synchro, it will cost renault more to strip and make a decision to replace when you can tell the problem from the drivers seat.
It is a mechanical failure which is not consequential damage from a non covered part and is therefore covered.
Just tell them synchro is gone, test drive with service manager, get him to acknowledge the failure and get the repair authorised before they touch the car - no risk for you and the dealer gets paid and makes a profit on his parts and labour.
It costs Renault France in the end and believe me they aren't paying more than £500max for those boxes in the volumes they buy. They'll just wince at the dealer labour bill!

Sounds like a plan. Thing i'm worried over is if I should mention the repaired casing? :?

I have had warranty work refused before when they get parts off the car and see they have been previously repaired!

Peter :(

I think the same as what Mike said. They are not interested – quick roadtest will tell them the box is knackered the way so many of them already have been and will be. They will order the box and then fit it. Tell them fuck all.

Rung the stealers who have been through the usual stuff. I have told them that the clutch has been replaced outside warranty. And they re-iterated that if this issue is miss-use then it will not be covered.

I'll drive over there at lunchtime for a test drive with a Renault tech guy.

Once again fingers crossed.

Peter :D

Been to the stealers and the Renault tech guys has diagnosed worn bulk ring (which in other words is syncho ring).

They will call later with what Renault will offer to pay for under the warranty bearing in mind the age mileage etc.

Fingers Crossed.

IMO they should clearly pay all of it! Its only 2 and a bit years old for fecks sake. Grearboxes should last 100K miles and years!

Peter

Thought warranty was for three years and 60k, as you are within that must be replaced under warranty.

Bulk rings are not a wearable item.

The only thing I am not certain of isn't the 1st year with Renault and the other two years under an insurance policy.

accept nothing other than a fully paid repair - it is not a consumable and is warranted under the policy unless excluded in the small print

Mike

Renault stealers have left me a voice mail. Apparently a new gearbox will be paid for 100% under the warranty. 8)

They are ordering one today. They think they will have it next week. LOL  I'll believe that when I see it. :P

Anyway will ring them later but it sounds good. I'm going to check but clearly they will not be checking the old box before they get the new one ready. It's a straight swap. I'll confirm i'm not paying for anything. When swapped its a done deal. 8)

Sounds like common sense prevails!

And sounds like the warranty has worked as it should! I have to admit i'm surprised.

Peter :D :D :D
