Just been out for a spirited drive, only issue came home in the dark. The standard headlights on the ph1 are useless!
Anyone upgraded to hids or replacement bulbs?
I did hids on my leon, its was easy enough, so I'll probably go that route. With winter drawing in, and as its not a" tuck away till spring car" ive got to do something !

They do make a big difference.
I don't think it's a simple 'retro fit' option though, as HIDs weren't an option on Ph1 Clios. Not sure what the after-market has available... as I mine were done for me.
I think mine has lost 'side lights' as a result of the upgrade.
Try hids4u.com, dead easy to fit, just dips and upgrade mains with conventional bulbs, they will adviseshould give discount for clubs so mention v6clio.net, if not use disco3,com. Overall improvement will be unbelievable! :approve:
I was having this problem last Winter, I upgraded my bulbs to Osram Night Breaker Unlimited and the difference was huge, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them.
I was told They are if you put HID BULBS into normal reflector headlights as they are not deigned for HID and scatter beam and cause you to dazzle cars in front etc.
By the letter of the law,Yes this is true, along with automatic self levelling lights, however in 3 yrs in my leon its never been an issue, not been flashed by anyone for dazzling them.A by the book mot tester could fail you but you can always put the old bulbs back in and pc blod could stop and I assume fine you but I think they have better things to do .think ill price it up.

Aren't folk getting mixed up with HID kits and the OEM projector lense lights (which the dual optic headlights of the mk2 ph1 Clio has), with the Xenon lights that the mk2 ph2 Clio has?
Only Xenon lights need washer jets iirc.
HID kits can be fitted to most non Xenon headlights I thought..?
The standard 55W halogen globes in the projector lens i.e. a Ph1 vee is piss weak. Tried a few "55W+" plus globes still doesn't improve things when it is night time and raining cos of the reflecting wet roads.
I got some Philips HIDs retrofit kit that includes a slim size ballast and HID globes in HB3/9005 fitment. These are only dipped beams. I ordered 4300K as this is warmer and does not look fluro-white BUT it arrived with 6000K looking a lot of whiter than I want and I wasn't bothered enough to exchange it. FYI, Philips only produce 4300K and 6000K HID globes.
After using it for around 6 months, I find the 6000K albeit looks good but it doesn't give enough intense output. Sure, it is white but not warm enough for eyes to see clearly.
