Has anyone used Esure insurance?

Will

New Member
Hi,

It's insurance renewal time for my v6. I have been insured with Admiral for the last 4 years as they have consistently offered the best price, and there customer service has always been very good (some other company's were quite confused by the v6's existence ).

But this year their initial renewal quote was: £665.95 so I checked the comparison sites and the best price was being offered by a company called Esure. I went to their website to fill out the request a quote section to be sure and they came back with £222.88 without protected NCB or £245.16 with protected NCB.

To say I was surprised by the difference would be an understatement (for reference I will be 25 by the time the policy renews with 7 years NCB and a mileage allowance of 7500) so I rang Admiral to see if they could match or at least get close to this, but the best they could manage was £515.95. Obviously this is such a big difference it seems foolish to stay with Admiral but some of the reviews I have read for Esure online don't fill me with the utmost confidence.

Has anyone had experience with them? Is it a case of luring you in with a very low first years premium and then jacking it up afterwards?

Thank you,

- William.

I had mine insured with them until I learnt about the agreed value insurance. I think I paid around 600 for the insurance, but at market value.

For comparison, I have now insured the vee and the focus RS with Adrian Flux on agreed value insurance for £1000

It's a good price. My house is insured with them under an intermediary. There were a lot of disclaimers on the house insurance which means that they'll always look to dodge the bullet.

It would be difficult to decline at that price though...

Will, have you tried Hagerty? Their agreed value policy is very good, and as a company they are very easy to deal with.

Have insured daily drivers with Esure, and their prices were competitive, but never had to make a claim.

hi , in my opinion you need to be thinking of an agreed value. it is defo worth the extra money invoved as if any thing were to happen to your vee, market value just doesnt come close to the real figure these cars are now making !!!!

I would doubt any online quote that cheap - it's the owners responsibility to check all the details even if the car listing seems correct so even if it's their quote the insurer won't be liable unless it's validated ... If it's genuine great, but if it seems too good to be true, it probably is ...

I'm with esure with my v6 and bmw had no trouble with them even had a claim when I had accident with bmw and there were v good

And my v6 was £300 paying monthly and with protected no claims

Thank you for the replies everyone. I am going to give Esure a ring tomorrow all being well just to double check a few things with them.

Hi Dulan, no I haven't been able to get a quote as of yet as when I tried to get a quote online it seems to say you have to be over 30 to get a quote.

Didn't know there was a lower age limit Will. Must admit when I switched to Hagerty, over 7 years ago, I was well over 30 ( :( ), but cannot recommend them highly enough. Their multi-car agreed value policy is very good.

Either way, as others have said, I would recommend getting an agreed value policy, which usually restricts the Vee to occasional/weekend use and limited annual mileage, and you need to have access to, or own, another car for daily use.

Will. As jimm and Dulan have said, it's well worth going the agreed value route, which e-sure do not offer. I think someone mentioned that market value is around 8 grand? If the worst should happen, then 8 grand isn't going to cut it

An agreed value policy is something I shall look into as my current policy doesn't expire until the end of the month but limiting the mileage is something I don't really fancy as it is my only car.

I agree that it is reassuring to have an agreed value policy, but as above if as a result it is going to significantly limit my usage of the car then that would be a big problem for me.

Another one here recommending an agreed value policy.
Be realistic about how much you'll really use the car mileage wise. If it comes down to it and you're running out of the 3,000 miles limit then just phone then up and ask to extend it. You may have to pay the same again but they're usually notably cheaper to start with and there's also the possibility something will happen that will limit your mileage anyway (kids/broken leg/job change/whatever).
The agreed Value bit is really important as the values of these increase.
Most 'standard' insurance policies just consider a Vee as a top of the range 10 plus year old clio and you'll have a fight getting the real value back if the worst happens.
Lots of them will only pay for a car that's repaired at one of their list of garages and I wouldn't trust many (if any) to change a headlamp bulb.
e-sure is as good as any insurance company for insuring a mudayo or focus but the Vee is a specialist car and needs to be insured with a company that understands that.

I'm with them and even though I put 19K as a value for my Vee - my policy says " market value " not the 19K I myself typed in ! I would presume that they replace like for like hence the market value bit ! So if mines written off they will (if they can !!) Replace or pay market value ! Oh and when I was 25 I wanted a v6 but insurance was 2grand plus !!! Driving since I was 18 ! So that's a cracking quote !

craigy990, if the worst happens then you could spend an awful lot of months trying to prove what the real market value is, with a girl in Swansea or Bangalore who thinks the market value for any Renault over ten years old is the scrap value.
The funny bit is that you're probably paying more premium than an agreed value policy would cost...

Hi Will,

Not sure if I'm late on this thread, but have you tried Adrian Flux? I have just cancelled my Admiral policy because they were just constantly hiking the price up, and I just kept paying! I do have a limited mileage policy on mine as it's a bit of a garage queen, but I've saved a fortune on my insurance. I also have agreed value, NCB protection and FlexDrive which I'm very pleased with.

I have all the extras declared too (i.e., exhaust, air filter, front splitter).

Hope this helps.

Phil.

Just thought I would update this to say that I spoke to Esure to find out what they would actually value a v6 at should the worst ever happen. They said they would look to pay out between £1000-£2000 (and no that isn't a typo) so those of you who are insured with them and posted here I would suggest you contact them yourselves as you may be in for a nasty surprise.

I decided that based upon this information it was well worth speaking to Admiral again to see what they believe market value for the car would be. They were much better, coming back to me with a price of £10,000. Still not quite the £14,500 I personally believe my car to be worth and a figure I would look to achieve if it were for sale in the current market, but still more than I paid for the car back in 2011.

I will try and get some agreed value policy quotes tomorrow but as the v6 is my only car and I enjoy the fact I get to use it all year round I would expect to cover at least 7500 miles this coming year. Which could, based upon what others have said above make attaining such a policy more difficult, but we shall see.

- William.

Good job you checked before snapping up that policy! with that low a figure it would of been easy to snap it up think you'd got a bargain.

Phil.

Iv been told that flux can be a lot more competitive and even cheaper sometimes if the car is modified.
