Groupbuy hispec 4 breaksystem

don't forget the pics :icon_biggrin: love to see what it looks like with the black wheels:icon_lol:

john, it's gonna look tasty - had them fitted for 10 minutes last weekend & i had a semi on just looking at them...LOL

Pictures will follow tomorrow....:icon_cool::icon_cool:

!!update!!

Went to Hi-Spec to collect brakes today :icon_wink:

While I was there I had them fit my set, so that we have a template to work off in case of any problems, and also in case they go wrong, and Hi-Spec blame it on the mechanic! If you get my drift.....

Arrived on sight, met by Jeff the owner (nice bloke).

After a cuppa and a chat he got one of his staff to start on the fitting.

It didn't go completely smooth. Firstly the spokes on my alloys fouled the side of the caliper by a few thousandth of a mm. They couldn't machine the alloy, so they put a spacer on the hub which works well. I'm not a fan of spacers, so will be getting the front wheels machined slightly :icon_wink:

The next problem were the two screw holes that hold the screws that secure the disc to the hub. These were slightly too small, but 10 minutes later my set, and the other 4 sets were corrected to fit.

The last problem was the pads. They were very close to the centre of the bells. Hi-Spec decided that they should machine the outer edge of the pads back. They thought that after heating up the, metalwork may expand slightly, and rub on the on the bells. Anyway 15 mins later, pads emerged modified :icon_wink:

I can't really comment on their quality versus standard modded brake set-up as I'm bedding them in. Once bedded in, I will let you all know what i think. I'm sure the rest of you that bought sets will have your own version of events, so be good to hear from everyone when fitted :icon_biggrin:

Here are some pics I took......

Lookin good Phillipa, but please, replace those Nylock nuts with metal lockers. That nylon will soften and if it gets hot enough will melt out of the nut. Personally, there's no way in hell i'd leave them on the way i'd plan on using them. Can they not do UNF bolts to thread straight into the hub like the OE setup?

Otherwise, they should make it stand on it's nose. I'll be very interested in a comparison brake test against my standard setup on the Quadra which is eyeball poppingly silly at the minute :icon_biggrin: you might even convince me to buy some one day lol

I'll peak to them about the ni-lock nuts - good point!!

Why did they do this?

Shurly they know what size pads fit there caliper's. Or had you asked for some thing different?

Also are all pads going to need this mod before they will fit?

Good point. Although the pad was not touching the bell, I can only assume that as they were fitting themselves that they wanted to be extra careful :icon_confused:

I will be asking them what pad they recommend for pad changes. I dont really want to have to machine pads before fitting everytime.

Having said that, the french guy that already has this set-up, apparently ordered his brakes with no pads, so would be interesting to find out what pads he is using / tried ...... Jo ??

Only the sets with 310 discs needed modifying. :icon_wink:

I'll see Teo next sunday and will ask and check his set out.

Phill, do you have pics with the rims fitted ??

Its ok dave the bolts that are holding the bracket to the hud aren't even long enough the be touching the nylon in the nut (second pic):icon_eek::icon_eek:
and lets hope the third pic was a miss fit as the caliper is upside down! LOL
Having said that mmmmmmmmmmm I like

If it were me, please forgive if this doesn't compute for some reason, but wouldn't you have the bolt heads at the disc side, so you could keep the nylock away from a direct heat source and also use bolts long enough to reach the nylock part of the nut? Well, as a second choice as i'd prefer toward the M12 UNF threaded bolt into the threaded hub as per Renault intended.
It worries me (I worry too much don't I) that the potential forces are increasing, yet the bolts have dropped in size (M12 to M10 and pitch-i'll put money on it they're M10x1.5) and the nuts don't even reach the locking bit.

Sorry Phil, I know they're your new brakes, they look great and i'm sure the results will be spectacular I just want to know when you're braking down from 100+ (especially if you're behind me) that everything is 100% pukka :icon_wink:

The third pic was just a line up. But I checked anyway and the caliper is on the correct way!! LOL :icon_wink:

The heads of the bolts are longer than the nuts, so your right that they would either be very close, or just touching the disc.

Personally I think they look the nuts, but havn't really been able to test them out properly :icon_sad: Yet.......

Picked up my kit today - good to catch up phil........

Red calipers look bling....couldn't believe the size of them....:icon_eek::icon_eek:

I'll get them fitted next week - hopefully they'll fit behind my new alloys...:icon_rolleyes::icon_rolleyes:

Thanks again Phil for collecting the kits.....
