Hats off to these guys. I 'popped' an inner OS drive shaft gaiter on the way home from Kimbolton. It's nominally only supplied complete with replacement drive shaft (costing £££'s) but these guy diligently found me a matching Renault part after some painstaking research.
I'd only attended Gravells once before in 2006 and was then disappointed. The firm relocated and have obviously raised their game stratospherically.

I'd also like to say a big 'Thank you' to Spike - who has sourced me an inner NS gaiter for that eventuality!

Yes, and there was a long wait for a 'Super low approach recovery vehicle'
(Vee friendly!). I was delivered home at 4.30am. Wasn't 't my best in work the next day!

The first picture is me towing it from near my house to Gravells. One reason I won't be renewing my AA membership (they were utterly useless) is that they wouldn't deliver driver and vehicle to different addresses. Luckily, my other car is a Discovery.

Was the car not drivable Kett, as I and probably many have knowing and unknowingly driven quite a while with a split cv boot, or did you prefer to play it safe ? I think your a long way away from Kimbolton though ...

With hindsight - it probably was drivable. I heard the 'pop' noise and immediately pulled over... at which point there was a mild smell of smoke in the cabin (as the some lubricant had been sprayed on the cats). Obviously, thoughts of the BG burning to death on YouTube came flooding into my mind - and I was very worried!

The risk of contaminants damaging the driveshaft was averted by stopping when I did though - so there was some merit in that.

There's a part number on the receipt.

I'll probably try to order another one independently to make sure it 'looks about right' before posting that part number up.
I was surprised when SGM and RPD didn't have the Intellectual Property on this issue though...

Spike informs me it the NS inner gaiter that's the critical match though, as that leads to gearbox oil loss when compromised.

I found that on the near side on the ph1 the shafts cost a fortune but the Reno traffic uses the same ends and gators as the v6 , cost me £30 to replace them, buying a new shaft and tacking the end off , when you think of it, Reno didn't make enough of these cars to design a new tool too make like a one off type thing , when they have loads of gators used on other cars, and the traffic uses the similar gearbox

If you have a problem with a drive shaft ie joints etc but a traffic one he same side and just remove the ends off and a fit to your old shaft , as good as new for a fraction of the price
