Hi All,
You may remember my Gordini Turbo has been suffering a misfire that's been difficult to track down. I took the car to my friendly classic car garage. The guy there had lots of "fun" trying to identify the problem! The issue is that it's intermittent, and only really happens when the car is nice and warm.
Anyway, he replaced plugs and leads and re-seated the distributor cap. That seemed to work, then it didn't... So, he found another Renix ignition module, but from a Renault 20. That immediately solved the issue! The misfire was entirely gone.
However, now the problem is that the advance is too great for the G Turbo and I get loads of pre-ignition, but only under significant boost. The advantage of the R20 module is that the car feels loads faster off boost, and accelerates dramatically more quickly with the advance. I want more of that but less of the pre-ignition!
Any thoughts on what I can do? Can I adapt a GT Turbo Renix? Can I get custom ignition that will easily adapt to a Gordini Turbo and can take input from the knock sensor? I'd like to have something that has much more dynamic advance and is able to be tuned to all parameters so it gives more advance when the engine can take it but backs off under higher boost and under knock conditions.
Thanks,
Andrew
