Gordini Turbo exhaust manifold woes...

Hi All,

Is it just me or are Gordini Turbo exhaust manifolds always a pain to fit? Mine just doesn't seem to fit properly. The "short" half goes on straight away. The long part just doesn't. I've tried a couple of different manifolds on the car but they just don't fit!

I was wondering if the studs were bent. I've got most of them out so far (one of them is refusing to budge. My lock nuts just keep turning on the threads no matter how tightly I do them up - any thoughts?), but they all seem fine so far. The last manifold I fitted, I elongated one of the mounting holes, but then it didn't sit correctly and was out of alignment for bolting up the turbo.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Andrew

I don't know why but you tend to get that problem when you swap and change manifolds around, I had the same problem in the past, so now I tend not to mix them up. Andrew when you are saying they don’t fit, what do you mean exactly? They don’t fit flat against the head?

I know the manifold problems well. You'll get it on with the studs as they are, Have you tried brute force and a long screwdriver / lever to get it in place?? I've had to resort to that a couple of times

It's always been a problem - it's that the studs don't line up. Maybe heads and manifolds were matched from the factory?

I will try again. I've found that removing a stud can help, and then inserting it through the hole in the manifold. However, this may be a recipe for crossed threads! It's just terribly hard and frustrating.

I really don't think the studs are bent...

The original manifold for the car is no good now, one of the threads for the turbo is scrap. I'm not even sure if it's the original anyway.

Thanks,

Andrew

have you tried using shorter studs on the end closest to the turbo and normal ones further to the right?? I've had to do that if I remember right. You could get the original manifold heli coiled for ease of fitment too

Great idea on both things! I think the original manifold was pretty difficult to get on, but anything else is nigh-on impossible.

Good luck with your engine troubles.

ive took mine of a few times in situe and they are a pain but what you describe is fitting in 2 seperate parts? ive always removed and re fitted mine in one with the turbo flange section still attached, i basically take off turbo then unbolt and remove manifold in one,,, ive not had any major probs with studs lining up but i have noticed that the head mating face on the manifold can be a pain to get seated right maybe because i fit as one but it always pulled up ok.
