gearbox blown help!

1993 1.8 16v 19 cab phase 2

gearbox has let go, so having to source another, or a whole car for parts. Can anyone confirm or not what else fits, would one off an 8v fit? what about a clio 16v?

or does anyone have a box for sale? BNcrew, looking at you!

jb1 or 3 or a jc 5 boxs will fit,,

bet the circlip has poped out, not ideal but you can get theb back in just as a short term fix untill you change the box IMO they never recover well from doing this it will always come out again

i have one here alright but sadly its still attached to the donor car, not got around to dropping the subframe with the engine and box out to put the new one in yet, not sure really when i will cos not being mechanically awesome i have to wait till whenever my friend can offer his time and equipment to take it all out yet, if youre in no rush im sure it will be done in the next while but not within the next month i would say

Is it just a matter of equipment? say if I was to come down with a box of tools and my engine crane...?

It is that Yeah, if you want to come down with stuff feel free to drop the subframe pull the whole lot out and grab the box for yourself if you need it soon, if not I think we'll get around to it in a month or two

Folks, there is a JB3 box on ebay apparently in a 2002 megane 1.8 16v - will this fit??

if its jb3 then i believe it should be fine

It will fit but you will have problem with speedo.

You need gearbox from car without ABS so it has speedo attached to gearbox "hole"

You can use gb from any Clio I 1.4 (JB1), 1.8 16v (JB3) or 2.0 16v (JC5)
Megane 1.4/1.6 (JB1) 2.0 16v (JC5)
R19 1.4 (JB1) 1.8 16v (JB3)
Laguna I 1.8 16v (JB3) 2.0 16v (JC5)

Having ABS does not necessarily mean that there is no speedo drive in the box..

I have that kind of gb on my F7R engine. Gb is JB3 from Megane 1.6 16v `99

Chaps, another question. Will a 1.8 8v 19cab box work? there's a ropey cab on ebay for the right coin.

Dr S is correct in his gearbox issues with speedo.

new cars use the abs rings for the speedo.

When renault phased this in they put a blank in the speedo cable hole on the gearbox. Sometimes there speedo drive was there sometimes not.

later the boxes had the speedo cable hole but to fit a cable you have to drill the casting then fit the speedo drive but the gear may not be on the diff wheel.

i have had to turn away boxes because of this issue as I need a speedo that works

Good sir, PM me a price for the box. Did a few miles today and nothing up north. Found a JC5 box, that was as close as I got.

Also, on the off chance that that cab is a NI or UK car and not ROI, let me know price for the whole car. Would be easier pulling it apart up here in my yard, or if it was a UK/NI car, worth transferring the good parts onto as we've found this shell to have had an undeclared shunt and poor repairs.
