Bit of a newbie question but I've idea how these things should sound.
I have an 05 Mk2 and when I change from Reverse to 1st, I get a little resistance and when it engages a little clunk from the engine area. No grinding or anything like that.
dont push it in if its to hard to do so or feels wrong, select 'second gear' first then 'first gear', i have the same problem, i think its just the syncromesh or lack of it it first gear. . .
First gear is fully synchronized, you can even downshift to first gear in slow corners.
I have the same, but only when the car is standing. Just let the clutch come up a bit and it will snap in.
I used to suffer the same problem in all the renault 21 turbos, gtas, and A610. I found by droping it into first be4 engaging reverse used to go straight in, becomes second nature. I think its a renault thing.
I never had any difficulties with changing gears in my Vee. In my 2.0 16V I had when I selected reverse. Just selecting neutral, lift the clutch, kick it in again and I could select it without friction. Maybe something to try.
The mechanical sounds when changing gears are part of the Vee.
