Front right engine mount trouble 19 16v cab...

As some of you may have read in another post my front right engine mount (the one on the block near the pullies) sheared in half last week well it may have been before that but I only spotted it last week.

I fitted a brand new one at weekend but it just seems to be sagging to the position of the last one before it broke...

has anyone had a similar issue with them? When I drive over potholes I can hear the metal bit's of the mount touching/knocking and It seems to be very soft.

I have deffinately fitted it correctly, it's angled on both sides to match the bracket on the block and the angle of the subframe, it seems very weak, I bought it from GSF for £22.

Cheers (y)

How's the rear mount? If it's collapsed the engine will be out of position, putting strain on the other mounts.

All 3 of the mounts are just crap tbh.

The front left is brand new too and I have just bought a brand new one for the rear aswell. I am going to have to take in into a garage to get ther rear one fitted this week and see if its that. It would make sense if it is broke, is it a nightmare of a job?

Cheers Neal (y)

neil- wots the best way to change the rear mount? i fear mine is burst, so i may have to change it. i remember trying to change one many years ago with little sucess.
im gettin noise/vibration on hard acceleration in first and second, so i reckon the mounts are needin changed, need to investigate at the weekend.

ive found removing the exhaust mani (i have a 4 branch so peice of piss lol) you can then unbolt the bracket and wiggle it up that way, support the engine first min you, then unbolt the mount, just the reverse and hey prest your done, doin mines this weekend and did the tigerseal mod on it aswell

Cheers jay. Hmmmm im runnin standard mani, not so good for changin the rear mount. Ill have to give it a bash. Wot bout jus droppin the downpipe off, would that be much help for me? Again ill uave to investigate for myself!

no need for grinder, still use the modded bracket lol, didnt have time today, been messing around with other people cars lol

ooo you wasnt working on my 19 lol, but need make a brake line up,, as grinder catch the brake pipe underneath lol,

they all sag, even new ones, the mount set up as Neal mentioned is crap.

Best way to change the rear mount on a stock car?

A floor jack to support the engine.

Undo the front gearbox mount (16mm nut through hole in subframe, 16mm nut onto the bracket, then use a breaker bar or something to lift the box up and pull the mount out)

Then jack under the engine, then a bit of underneath and up top jumping about undo the 18mm nut that goes through the donut part of the mount, then undo the 2 16mm nuts on the bracket to the gearbox.

Support engine with the jack and you can push the 3 bolts (1 18mm and 2 16mm) out, the bracket will now be loose but will be stuck.

However since you undone that front box mount simple grab the gearbox and pull it towards the front of the car, the black mounting bracket will now drop to the ground.

You can now actually deal with the mount, theres 3 16mm bolts holding the mount to the subframe, the bolts actually screw into a loose plate thats tucked up into the subframe btw, that back bolt which faces the rear of the car usually has a lambda wiring eyelet on it, but theres no need to fully remove that bolt just the 2 top ones.

Its an annoying set up but its not to bad.

I have done it on grass using only the scissor jack in the boot. How I have no idea, I have never been able to repeat that one. So I do it the way I listed now.
