Flashing engine management light

sbturbo2

New Member
Hi

After a couple of minutes from start up the engine light started flashing and engine started running rough, obviously pulled over and turned ignition off, restarted and everything is fine again, driven for another 5 miles to destination and it hasn't repeated the fault.....any thoughts or forget about it?

Cheers Simon

Driven home tonight and still no issues so i guess I need to wait until it goes totally, I suppose I can't really diagnose too much. I have a new one in the boot waiting for my first coil failure!

Thanks for the info

If you have a faulty coil all it takes is a few engine revs with the fault happening. Just enough for the ECU to diagnose it but usually far to short for the driver to recognise. After that this cylinder is shut down to prevent from any damage and the light starts flashing (obviously the highest priority alert when a fault is present). The moment you turn off the ignition the fault changes from present to saved and the light stops flashing and starts to light permanently instead. At the same time full engine functionality is regained until the fault happens again (which can take months).

Since a faulty coil is one of the worst faults to happen the ECU will keep it saved and the light won't ever go out until the memory is erased.

When there is no fault present the car can be driven normally and the light is just a reminder you should go and check it :)

Thanks, for information the engine light turned off and has stayed off, so not sure what really happened [smilie=doubt.gif]
