Clio F4r ktec Supercharged vs meglio f4rt

Hi all.

So I'm currently at that stage of wanting to boost my clio 197. I am unsure as to whether to keep the current engine and go down the root of the ktec supercharger kit or just swap the motor.. either way I will be looking at completly forging all internals. I'm not looking for stupid power but an absolute track weapon would be ideal.

Unfortunately i am unable to go for a drive in any boosted clio purely by not directly knowing anyone to ask, hence why I'm on here asking you knowledgable fellows/gals.

(Not your average stupid question as I am a fully experienced mechanical engineer and a competent mechanic, just not familiar with the renault platform)

Kind regards.

It's a simple enough conversion for the Meg swap, Dave has a guide which will be a great help. It all depends on whether you prefer Low down torque of a turbo car or a screamer of a N/A with a supercharger? You'll get a lot more torque with the Turbo conversion also better fuel economy, mine gets around 25 mpg at 304bhp with regular hooning.

Don't think you get that from a std 197/200?

Just look out for cheap parts as new can add up. 3" exhaust system can be around £1k new. There is one on facebook at the moment for £400.

Any info you need just ask.

Brilliant stuff all! Cheers alot. I will be doing the megane conversion, thinking as to whether it would be worth building the motor myself or doing that swap an old motor for the pre built 225 megane engine ktec are offering.

Also DaveL485 that would be great thanks for the offer but unfortunately I live down in plymouth, devon.

Money isn't much of an issue I'm pretty good at wasting it on other things. putting however much into a 4/5k clio and not getting it back sounds fun.. but smiles per miles rather than miles per gallon. Also the car is used as my track/weekend car. I run a ford c max family wagon throughout the week because my child is messy as **** he ruined the interior in my gt86 lol..

Once again thanks all!

If I were you I would do the Meglio conversion first - buy the full package you need used. Get it done, get it working and reliable, then look at modifying the engine or buying the KTEC forged unit or whatever.

Burning five large on a forged lump before you know the end cost of the conversion might prove a folly. You might even be happy with the 280hp you can tune from a standard lump and not need to lob a fortune at the uprated internals. I have a standard 225 engine in mine and it's a hoot. I'll be happy enough with a remap.

If you want a forged engine, Phil Nicholls (Flintshire engines?) something like that is very good and charges around £2k for a forged build with std top end. But anything is possible.

I built mine myself if you check out my thread.

I cant comment on the meg 225 swapped vs sc 197 I have built a supercharged 172 and then also owned a turbo 172. If you like to feel like you are going fast with a slug of torque turbo is what you want, if you want to go quickly on track without the issues of massive torque steer and fighting the steering wheel go supercharged. Deceptively fast and drove like it was a MASSIVE N/A car, power climbed continuously to the red line (y) depends a lot on your driving style I guess.

The Supercharger sounds like alot of fun. My Dad fitted the first (I think) 197 supercharger kit from Ktec to a Cup racer. I imagine that was amazing with the sequential.
He's seen a few megane engine conversions too. Some have been really bodged (by people who are apprently conversion specialists) so be careful and get reviews of previous work or course.

Most the work will be done by myself to a certain extent.. anything I cannot do or do not have the tools to do it I would most likely be taking it to ktec to have it done there..

as to the supercharger or the meg turbo I just want something that sits perfect between the 300 - 400bhp mark and has a decent amount of power through the rev range.. yes it will mostly be a track car but I will be using it on the odd throughout the week so it will occasionally be sat in traffic..

However I do like the sound of the ktr forged meg 225 engine from ktec.. it might be abit overkill but it is something I am considering.

To do a Meg swap yourself you need to be fairly confident in:
Engine/box swaps
Basic wiring skills and soldering (diagrams on my thread)
Welding/exhaust fab

Thats about it. Read my thread.

I’m debating this myself. I had a 250 meg before - but wanted NA so went clio. For me supercharging keeps the essence of the car - albeit not as efficient as the meglio conversion. For me if I go meglio I may as well just buy a Megane.

Cooling seems to be mentioned quite a bit on the supercharger conversions - is it really a massive problem compared to the meglio conversion?
