Exhaust manifold

Flames, although brilliant to see, are as result of way too much fuel. In my case because of a boogered AFR ratio after my plenum work etc. In other words they're not the best outcome!

Once up and running properly you'll have lots and lots of cracks and pops (lifting off is like inviting Syria to your back bumper!) and the odd mild flame on heavy acceleration. Flames like in my avatar are a sign something is wrong to be honest!!

I have a full janspeed system with cats and its awesome, i'd love to decat it though. Just to see what it's like. Id also think it would be pretty awesome with the flame part, but i'm sticking with the theory that overfuelling cannot be good for the car.... for now that is.

It's not always down to over fuelling guys. Ignition plays a big part. I fully decat'ed mine just before I took it of the road and it ran perfect yet still spat a few on gear changes high up the rev range.
If I were fitting a full system to an otherwise standard road vee, I'd go the extra mile and fit sport cats. Bill Patchall has sport cats fitted to his full trophy system and that is one of the most epic sounding cars I have ever sat in at full chat. It certainly saves pissing about once a year when it comes to mot time.

I have one, but it was took on my phone and wasnt the best. I'll see if i still have it and post it anyway.
Other than that, Matt took one of us in the lakes driving past which might give you an idea of the sound, but i cant seem to find it anymore.

I'll sure get another one next time i put my ear defenders on though :)

True Brett, though I think it depends on what you are classifying as 'flames' there are the little pops type things and then there are the ones in my avatar. The former, I agree, are normal, the latter have to be created by a whole load of fuel!

Friendly MOT station for me. Sports cats are great but it's one more thing to break, especially if you start playing around with the fuelling and unburnt stuff gets through to the cats. Been there done that with my RX8 [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

Rotor motors have HUGE exhaust gas temps though Jon so no wonder you had probs with that! Lol

Was an expensive mistake I won't be repeating!!!!! lol

Hi all, dropped in a little late on this one.
I left a post a few months ago asking if there was any interest in "sports cats", but fitted to the std front pipe so it could be used with the janspeed ph2 or even any rear pipe including std. now whilst this has been on the back burner i have possibly sourced the correct cats for the job, same size and 200 cpi structure. these could be done on an exchange basis or fitted in your original pipes. the cats are not cheap rubbish these are quality items.
If there is any interest please let me know, i cannot see the point in building the jigs to do this without any want for them.

Any ball park figure for costs yet? Certainly very interested :approve:

For two downpipes to be converted around £700, these would be your pipes that i get in a jig, cut the cat out, replace with a QUALITY (poss swedish?) 200 cpsi insert and get em back to you.
There are a few ballaches with doing this:
!. getting the correct size insert, it is an oddball,
2. the cost of a quality insert is around £250 eash, 2 needed , 20 min order at this price,
3> making sure that the pipes delivered to me for conversion are good enough to fix. i.e. not too thin and rotten.

This is something that needs doing as i was told by scott that one is now unavailable from reno and the other is £800+.
Of course once underway these do not need to be performance cats they can have a std cat fitted but unfortunately the price stays the same.

I'm looking at about a grand for custom manifold Iain...That's from Byron Engineering in Balloch.

Undecided Matt...Mainly as it wouldn't be done at the same time the motor is out for belts...thus being a bit pointless!

Fairly settled on getting Scott to do the work, but not overly fussed on the janspeed as i'd need to get the tail pipes etc changed!

Hassle factor on tailpipes is literally nil, Ali. As long as you tell Scott you want different tailpipes, he'll let Janspeed know and they'll make it to order and send it direct to Scott. Takes a bit longer that's all, but tell him a little bit sooner and the timescales will be exactly the same.

Couple of things to consider here:
1. Look at the new laws regarding cat fitment for MOT, even freindly mot testers are now getting into trouble for letting this go! this is in the latest testers bulletin.
2. If you do need the tailpipes changing on the janspeed it would be better to approach myself as i am the link between us (v6 clio) and janspeed, and with all due respect not Scott. if you contact Scott more than likely he will ring me!

Check those MOT laws! It is now BIG fine for having no cat on the road.
