Exhaust: Ceramic Coating

Anybody do this, and found it beneficial from a performance point of view? I can see how it will help engine bay heat management, and reduce heat-related degradation of components sitting in the engine bay, but does it actually have any noticeable effect on performance?

Also, has anybody used this company? Performance 1 Coatings

I just had a larini system fitted to my R8 Dulan (but soon removed and put back to standard)as it was a bit too loud for me,
I had to wait 2 weeks for my exhaust to get the ceramic coating, the fitter was a really helpful chap who seemed to know his stuff and told me the coating has no effect on performance or sound, but was great for keeping the heat in the exhaust, he also said some exhaust manufacturers do not need to put the factory heat shield back on with certain ceramic coated systems,

Out the rear pipes James!

Worth doing to keep temperatues down for track days I'd guess. Have noticed quiet a few Trophy cars have had it done.

Mick, good to hear from you, and thanks for your feedback. Does that mean you got your standard exhaust ceramic coated? If so, did you find any difference - before vs. after? Bet you are still enjoying the R8....

Indeed Duncan, that is what I thought, especially given the Vee's engine & exhaust configuration. Wonder how much of a help it will be for the Trophy, especially given its tendency to overheat.

and there was me thinking the exhaust would get so hot it would catch fire ;)

I had the standard exhaust taken off Dulan (and luckily saved it), the larini was an upgraded system that are ceramic coated as standard, so I can't really compare the 2,
I do have a history of buying exhausts and swapping back to standard within a week, Clio V6 (orbisound), 996 (quicksilver), RS4 (miltek) all got swapped back within days,
Apart from loosing loads of money on the R8 larini exhaust, it then took 7 hours labour to fit, then another 7 hours labour to put it back to standard, all at £80 per hour I think the penny has finally dropped !!!!! I am an idiot,
I still log on to V6clio.net everyday, still the top forum,

Understand. Didn't realise you tried out the Orbisoud - my Illiad Phase 2 had it installed when I bought it. The Orbisoud is great to have when out for the occasional blast, but I had it changed, first to a standard back box (heavy beast) and then to Spike's Janspeed. These changes were done, in 2014 & 2015 respectively, in case the Orbisoud breached Goodwood's noise limits. Mind you I don't miss the Orbisoud on long journeys, but do miss the pops and crackles on the overrun.

By the way, as luck would have it, it seems that your old Vee is back up for sale: VX05 WMU
Still seems to be in superb condition. Don't fancy buying it back?

That's interesting, same mileage , and doubled in price in 3 years , I would love another V6 but I may give that one a miss, still a great car though,

A friend of mine did tests in his V8 Ultima can-am before and after Zircotec coating, made a big difference and the finish is lovely! Worth the cash in his opinion.
