Engine Noise?

Anybody any ideas?

Have a strange (tappety) noise coming from engine.

Starts up fine and engine is quiet. After /during a drive when i stop and the engine is ticking over - a tappety noise can start and it comes and goes - renault said that they cannot find a problem and then engine is quite normal.

What is going on?

Is it not maybe just the metal of the exhaust manifolds and the exhaust cracking? They make noises after they heat up during driving. Wild guess by the way.

lazy valve lifter - I had the same - ultimately it failed

so if it is the valve lifter - how serious is it when it fails?

- is it a big job to get sorted? (before and after)??

try oil and filter change with 10 40 fully synthetic.

oil change is a good idea - when mine seized I lost compression on one cylinder - just fitted a new set and it was fine
