Engine bay fan temperature sensor problem

Hi everyone.

Has anyone had any issues with their engine bay fan temperature sensor on a phase 1 Vee ? (the one mounted to the rear bulkhead panel by the fuel tank purge solenoid) I've suspected for a while that my engine bay fans are not coming on. I would have thought bridging out the two terminals to the sensor (eliminating the sensor from the circuit) would put the fans on but it doesn't, i've tried with just ignition on & with the engine running but no joy. I've also put 12v direct onto each fan & the're both working fine

Any thoughts or ideas ?

P.S. Just had a thought....maybe the ECU needs to read a hot engine coolant temperature as well as in the ambient in the engine bay ?

I'll get the engine hot with a hard drive & then bridge the sensor wires out, if that turns them on then i'll connect it back up & blow a heat gun a the sensor :)

The Engine bay fans are wired in such a way that they will only become active if the main (front) radiator fan (s) are active.
To test this switch the air con on , this will activate the front fans regardless of coolant temp, you can then bridge the terminals on sensor mounted in the engine bay. This should activate the pod fans

All seems to work now. I disconnected the radiator fans & waited for the engine temp to get up to a about 2/3 on the gauge connected them back up & then blew a heat gun at the engine bay temp sensor & then both pod fans came on [smilie=yay.gif]
