I have the F4R786,7 engine 2.0t that produces 170 bhp now I know there is 205 Laguna gt and Mégane 225 are they using same engine with different map and more powerful turbo or complete different setup was looking to modify my 2.0t for some more power

same block and head, the 170 has different and internals, smaller turbo though. From what i understand that engine is abit frail above 210bhp.

the 205 is a detuned 225/230 engine basically, the 170 is very different

On the honda we use to do Frankenstein use k24 block which is 2.4, and k20 head from 2.0 engine and some ECU modifications had to be done.

I thought would have just been an ecu swap but never is that easy

ecu just needs a remap, very capable ecu from factory. but it ties in with the immo and body control module.

Although more fun to do your own, would not be more cost effective to get parts off a donor car from breaker hmmm, anyone done on 2.0t have idea of cost to upgrade, the engine has done 57k

If you are opening up for rods and pistons you might as well fit upgraded parts, labour is the same and 225 rods and pistons arent exactly the strongest. turbo off a 225 or a 250+ megane is a decent upgrade too, but you need the stronger internals to take them. You'll also want cams too either 225 or 172 items could work but need some mods.

How far do you want to go? the more cost effective thing would be fit a 225 engine in its place complete if you wanted to do the parts bin special, or even a 250 rs engine, they take over 300 bhp safely

Correct although would plan to do work myself unless I was gonna do engine swap then would have to pop to garage as I don't have luxury of covered space or crane lift, I am limited to working on the road with tools

I can then strip and clean, polish and swap over does ECU and harness have to be replaced as well or straight swap would be very surprised if it was

Trying to Keep project cost effective don't really want to spend over £1000 would be happy with 225 to 250 bhp

A quick google shows you can so say get 225bhp on all stock parts with just a map, so maybe just do the basic bolt on's to it and get it mapped by EFI parts or RS Tuning. I was on the understanding they were abit fragile much above 200bhp though.

Interesting in that case, probably fit cold air intake, sports car and exhaust, what are options for modified flywheel and clutch would prefer a lightweight and then map to 205 - 210 bhp to be on safe side will also speak to mapper to see what results they have had with stock engine over 200 bhp.

I would only go to one of the 2 companies listed previously, I think most on this forum would agree.

You could probably fit the R26R single mass flywheel and clutch

Yes agreed not all mappers are good also those who have experience on Renault will know what to do, a bad map can really affect engine even cause damage heard people on other forums with various issues all due to bad map.
