adjusted tappets engine nice and ouiet idle gone a bit lumpy should i speed it up a bit. also seems throttle cable may have slipped on rocker covwer when unbplting it as dont seem as responsive. whats idle speed for this car a 1.4 old style.

idle speed isn't affected by the throttle cable unless its so tight its pulling it open.

If its gone lump after you adjusted the rockers then they are to tight.

Adjust the cable with the clip so there is still some slack in it.

it pulls ok and revs cleanly. ill move throttle up a few ferrules and i know the air cleaner needs replacing its over 6 yr old. it will sort itself over time as theres still a rattle so i no ive set em right. im on 700rpm at hot with no choke atouch of throttle and it clears up the shuddering. im not whipping cover off again.ps getting old of a new rocker gasket aint so easy it seams.ive been given the wrong one so i blue hylod it on. also why is it 9 pound for a circular deep a/f the one with the metal covering on it. robbing gits. thanks for your quick reply.

rocker gaskets are easy to get, they were still used up till 2002 on meganes and clios.

Red valve springs were used on later engines, they are softer.

What engine do you have? an e6J or an E7J? Ones a carb and the other is SPI

i take it e6j

its carb. no 1 plug was lose. seems more responsive now .occasional shakyness now and again revs cleanly and pulls well. fitted new air filter it was black. noticed little nick in breather hose big one will this matter.with green band that joins other pipe. also will change cap and arm. cleaned them up.

Slight thread hijack, but red valvesprings in general- mine are red on my F3R, so I'm guessing that follows suite as with the E series, softer?

a little nick won't do anything. the green and white on the other pipe bands are just restrictors, make sure they are clear, seen a fair few totally clogged.

Phil I couldn't honestly say, I would think so. I think my sisters old laguna had springs with a yellow line painted on them when I done its head. I think the 2; has bigger valves so will need a higher spring pressure.

ok thanks . the pipe joind onto a green plastic piece their was some oil in it. ive put some tape round it. adjusted the throttlre cable so rits half and half threads showing and theirs no power so ive put it to thirteen ferruls shoewing towards rad end and its better. how many ferruls should it be? set revs 750/800rpm. sometimes its ok and other times it goes shaky again. weird. will try a new dozy cap. .which way to set mixture is it anticw to rich and c/w to lean?if its within co at a garage im presuming its ok. it was ok. a new a/f has helped i think.
