Emissions warning light came on

Went out for a drive yesterday. 10 mins into drive the emission warning light came on (bottom right hand side of dash) and the engine now sounds very poorly  . Lipmed the car home @ 25mph max and have now parked it up to decide my next course of action. From looking through the posts in this section most people seem to attribute this problem to a coil failure on the car. Would people agree this is most likely the case with my vee or is it something more sinister? If it helps mines a mk2 running only piperx filter & k-tec backbox. Any advice much appreciated :)

I'd better get in touch with the local renault dealer then. Hopefully they'll be more clued up than the local Ford numpties when i had probs with my FRS

Alex ... as Andy's suggests above this is almost certainly a coil gone. It's a slightly aggravating problem that is about the only "regular" fault on the Vee. If you search the forum you'll find various discussions on the problem.

Unfortunate that it's bitten you this early on in your Vee ownership but it's relatively easy for Renault to fix.

Any ideas on how much replacement coil's are???? I'm thinking i'm going to order about 5 or 6, get the dodgy one(s) replaced and keep some spare for if the prob happens again, seeing as a few of you guys on this forum seem to carry a spare one with you

think they are about thirty something a pop.
if you are going to do all six and keep a couple spare why not just get a set of trophy coils and be done with the problem - long term fix.

Anyone have a link / contact for r sport? What sort of price/wait would there be on the trophy coils? Don't want to leave the car parked up to long without fixing it as i miss driving it

Dom a search and you will find.

About £50 each, they have as a norm 6 in stock. If they have to order from Dieppe 2 to 4 weeks as a norm.

You will also require new connectors.

Scott has some I believe and also may be coils.

Right i think my plan is gonna be
1 - fix the coil which has failed with a standard one, whilst...
2 - getting the Trophy coils on order via RSport or SG
3 - get the car booked in with SG to get the Trophy's fitted.
4 - and while im @ SG.......have a look at a few choice mods such as uprated discs, pads, etc as i think my vee will need to get replacement ones soon

Personally I would wait until RS have the trophy coils and adaptors unless you know it is the easy bank of cylinders with the faulty coil. Otherwise you are paying double the labour.
I got RS to do all 6 coils with standard parts for £220 parts and £170 labour inc vat. They are guaranteed and doing all 6 means if one fails warranty will pay next time.
Their labour rate is £65+vat P/H. It might be cheaper going there rather than your local Renault dealer even for standard items. Plus they understand the cars far better.
By the way this is not an ad for RS, but I have dealt with them for over 15 years and they are all Radbourne Racing boys. they only do whats needed, and as I too am in the trade that is a rarity.

Right changed the two coils that had gone and the emissions light is still on but the car is running fine on all 6 again. Will i just need to get Renault to clear the light using the diagnostics?

The light may reset itself after a few hundred miles. I'd previously heard this rumour, and then when my light came on (for a non-coil related reason) it reset after about a week tho' obviously the fault was still logged for later reading by a CLiP.

Decided to order a spare key and fob which will need to be programmed by Renault so i guess i may as well get them to clear the diagnostics while they're at it (if the light is still on next week) Cheers for the advice peeps :D
