Electronic Wastegate

Sorry Mark, missed this.
Never had issue with the AP’s before and nothings changed.
I was pushing hard and took liberties with the kerbs.
At clearways, if you run to outside of the kerb, your pretty much driving on a rumble strip before the grass !!!
Pedal came back with a dab, so definitey pad knock off.
Be Careful they’re starting to Clamp down on track limits now.

I’ve purchased a 5 Cup car you probably know of it. Original pre production Car. Can’t wait to get it repaired and back on track. Needs to be kept as original as possible so won’t be a match for yours. Big Looking forward to it. Keeping it on 13’s and on a Carb. Don’t really know what the limitations of the carb are.

We ran our car for a few years on original cup set up apart from turbo.
Car was great , 200 bhp, nice and reliable.

Won’t be a match these days though in that trim. You’ll be in the 2000cc class with serious machinery.

Have fun though 👍

That’s the only issue, It’s a struggle to find a good class for it, shame there aren’t many more 5’s out there still racing. I may have to run two set ups we’ll see, get it repaired and used to it first then see where it goes from there.

It really depends on you. If your happy just to be out there racing, there’s plenty of series/ classes for you to enjoy.
It’s a great experience 😎

If you want to be competitive. That’s another conversation……
I’ve built and work on plenty of race cars and most are there just for the experience.

In my opinion, if your in a race you want to be Competitive. 😁

Some changes to the set up for this year, first a TurboSmart Hyper-Gate 45 electronic wastegate. No more vacuum lines or springs controlling boost, it’s all controlled by the ECU.

The main reason for this is to give us more control with various boost options.
A traditional external wastegate with a boost solenoid will give you 2 boost options, high and low.
We had to change from the Adaptronic ECU to Haltech to operate the wastegate motor as well as other features that will be a benefit such as data logging.

A new exhaust manifold featuring a billet collector was made by Walton Motorsport who specialise in custom manifolds, this was fitted up to suit a v-banded GTX2560R with 3in downpipe.

Next job is to wire in the new loom and Haltech ECU.

Work of art

So we headed to Croft, definitely one of the best tracks in the UK and worth the 7hr drive from the SE.

After destroying the JB3 at Brands with the Gripper, we fitted our spare JC5 to get out our racing. I knew we wouldn’t be super quick without the Gripper but as we are the only one in our class, it’s just about finishing and racking up the points in the pre 93 championship and trying to get class D lap records at every track.

Qually was a shocker with the ECU not liking something and cutting engine to only manage one lap.
We unplugged the new Haltech wideband controller and the oil pressure and temperature inputs into the ECU.
Hey presto, we can go racing, even though we don’t know the track !!!

Race 1
Starting last, we finished 11th with a best time of 1.38.9 which is the new class D lap lap record.
Started to struggle getting gears two laps from the flag, so quick adjustment and spanner check, fuel and ready for race 2.

Race 2
Got up to 7th after 3 laps but no chance going any further with the M3’s up the road.
Started to crunch a few gears so clutch gone again…… decided to save the gearbox and rev match my gear changes which cost me a couple of places.
Finished 9th with best time 1.39.

A solid weekend with two good finishes and another lap record 👍
Currently 2nd in the pre 93 championship and leading class D.

Snetterton next in September as part of the truck racing meeting.
We will have the Gripper back in the JB3.
