I've had many, many PM's about running a Diesel 'box now, so rather than just repeat myself, I thought I'd write a little article on them
For my valver, running a Diesel box was one of the better mods I did - it suited my driving, but may not suit yours..
Benefits
The main benefit from them is the extended 4th and 5th gears - which not only help your cruising economy and tank range, but also reduce cabin noise due to the lower revs!
Ratios
From what I remember, the gear ratios (final speeds) are: 30mph 65mph 95mph 140mph 168mph (7000rpm limiter).
so gears 1-3 are still good for acceleration (and can take you into naughty speeds anyway) whilst 4 and 5 are good for cruising speeds
Driving at 70 GPS resulted in just 2800rpm.
Driveability
The downside to this is that if you need to quickly speed up to overtake or something, it's not quite as easy, as the 1.8 doesn't have much torque lower down, so you'd need to drop it down a cog!
On track, i found the ratios to be spot on, never dropped 'off-cam', which is vital in a valver! Kept up with lots of the 2.0s at FCS07...
Installation
It's a straight swap, everything plugs in... the only difference is that you dont have to use the 4 locating dowels at the bottom of the 'box and the casing here is angled slightly, so you can see the flywheel - but this never caused me any bother
A guide on how to replace a gearbox can be found here:

Cost/Availability
keep an eye on ebay and on local breakers yards - going rate is up to £50 imo.
The cars they came out of are the mk1 clio 1.9D which ran just 65bhp - so these boxes wouldn't normally have had a stressed life - unless its from a clio van, which might've been ragged everywhere whilst carrying a lot..
Codes
The box that I ran was a JB3 041

The ratios for this box as well as seeing which vehicles came with it and which other boxes are similar can be found in the Renault Gearbox Workshop Manual:
http://www.williamsclio.co.uk/forum/vie ... hp?t=20270 (WilliamsClio.co.uk)
If someone fancies making a note of what those could be, that would be great!
