Dephaser

I've bitten the bullet and ordered some from SGM, they're being fitted in two weeks time.

I'll ask Scott to give the old ones so I can get some piccies and stick em up.

Had an interesting comment from a Peugeot trained senior mechanic who has loads of customers with cars with Quad cams and dephasers are not an issue on these and only sem to cause problems if either irregular oil changes/low oil or wrong spec oil used, dirt, sludge and burnt debris tend to cause the problems. Even then, when failure does occur, it is not likely to be engine damaging, the car just gets more undriveable. He has taxis running around with original dephasers at over 250k and still going strong!

That is a very interesting insight, which seems to imply that failures are due to incorrect/insufficient maintenance.

Really..

Most of these cars, including mine get very well looked after, infact many, like mine are indulged annually..

Dont believe this cold start up rattle symptom, ie worn pulley, has ever caused any harm and infact Scott tells me many cars have it and live with it..

Bit harsh to blame poor maintenance. Im sure its just a matter of time before more 'cared for cars' suffers the same problem. Personaly think its down to age and mileage.

as for Taxis, have you heard one start or run recently!! [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

Agreed, I put it down to age and mileage. I could have chose to just leave it and live with the cold start rattle, but I reckon having it done helps future resale value, as I'd much rather buy a Vee with them changed.

Good new everyone, it seems that Renault are getting in fresh stock of dephasers! Not available yet but coming soon.

Wow, finally!
Could this be the power of numbers..
Well done, who ever pushed them, I know I certained tried!

I was told something very similar when I was getting the cambelt done both Reno technicians

I was thinking to get Peugeot bits but out of curiosity asked my supplier to check with Renault first, expecting to be told "forget it", and the word came back that Renault were expecting to have new stocks of dephasers in a few weeks time!!

I can only suggest that you now try placing an order with Renault UK / RPD.

I've been running the wrong oil for 7 years and I've not had any dephaser issues...Must be luck!

There are a few articles regards Renault de-phaser faults and it's more down to design of the pin , bad / poor servicing will obviously accelerate wear.. I don't think many v6 owners are guilty of neglect in terms of servicing.. This may be the case for other cars but that's a different issue.

Hi guys

Just to confirm, we (RPD, Fish Brothers Renault, Swindon) have had no news from Renault UK about there being a new date for the dephaser pulleys.

On the Renault UK back order file it still states there is no date.

I can only recommend that orders are placed with your local dealer and then you place a enquiry through Renault customer services.

We will not be offering this part via the internet unless Renault confirm stock in the UK

I've had this intermittently for 5 years - originally thought it was tappets and changed them with cambelt

Usually happens after car is stood for a while e.g. i guess oil fully drained to the bottom of the engine

But its very intermittent and speaking to Scott stopped worrying about it and i've had no engine blow ups

Only thing ever found was dealer once saw an error code - and actually after cleaning up the contacts i think has been much less so worth checking

Regarding oils - I use a oil engine flush, fuchs / silkolene

Cambelt service coming soon for mine.

Just wondering if there's any more news about Renualt making more dephasers?
