This is an illegal mod, so can you declare it to the insurance company? Or are there other ways around it?

On my scoob I had my decat declared on the insurance policy.

It is a grey area. As long as your car has an MOT it is legal.

You can fit the decat after the MOT.

i wouldnt bother tbh, they arent going to be able to tell

What if you have a bad crash though, there would be a good chance that they find the missing cat when inspecting the car (especially if the car has other mods)

yeah, but you would still have to tell them it has a decat, would they accept that as a mod even though isn’t techinally legal?

I have declared de-cat pipes before to insurance companies and they have been quite happy - even though a cat was technically (legally ?) required.

Mod friendly insurance underwriters are pretty wise to these things anyway, and generally clued up with cars and mods. They manage the claims with the insurance companies - so whether there is any jiggery-pokery or not in reality is outside of what you get involved with as the insured party. The relationship between sprecialist underwriters and insurnace companies is also typically very good - hence the great deals they can do with modified cars.

I use sky insurance and they are mod friendly - though I have no mods on the V6. They insure cars with practically any mod you can think off - they don't bat an eyelid as long as it's all declared. They also do fixed value for a small premium extra.

I also had a claim once with a car which had a de-cat pipe declared, no problems.

Cool, good post. I think I might phone my insurance company to enquire about it (have to wait a bit before I can change to a mod-friendly insurer).
