5 GT Turbo Deadline 9th June 2018

Right..... how emotions can change in a few hours. After having a beer, I went back out and re-assessed. Everything I could see down into the clutch was present
Nylon pivot - check
Release bearing - check

End of the day it just needed more spacing. “2 nuts deep” and I can disengage the clutch BOOM!

So like an excited little kid I drove it down to my bro’s and round the block..... all good to report.

Roll on Saturday and the MOT 488F195C-1920-4292-A176-1880DAA666AA.webp

Good job.

Just make sure the cable is clipped back properly, I had one snap on the way to work once, managed to limp it to garage on way, they changed it and I drove home after work, half way home it came free, I lost the clutch and it fell forward onto the exhaust. Wasn’t happy, rang they up and they came out and clipped it back and it worked fine again, was just melted a little so gave me half my money back.

So Saturday didn't go entirely to plan. The car failed its MOT, however the items should be easily sorted as follows:

Both front brake lines are catching on the drive shafts on full lock - solution - jack it up and loosen the unions to the calipers and tie them back to the chassis if needed.
Battery isn't clamped down - Clamp ordered from ebay (it better bloody turn up in time)
Rear seatbelt was stuck - Its already fixed.

The rear brake bias / adjuster was also seized but we managed to free it at the garage.

My clutch is still giving me grief, after looking at it again we think the black part of the peddle ratchet is opening under pressure, hard to explain but ill get another peddle and see if it fixes the issue.

My biggest annoyance is the oil i seem to have seeping from the sump. Its in a few places too. When the sump was fitted it was all sealed, but cant have been good enough. I've been and bought a proper gasket sealer this morning and will drop the oil, then take the sump off and see if it can be re-sealed. Any advise..............this ones really pissed me off!

Besides that, its booked back in early Saturday for a re-test.

Is it leaking at the ends by the horseshoe seals? The orange ones that needed trimming to fit?

Looking at the sump, its running down in several locations, both ends and somewhere along the back. I'll put up with it leaking whilst i run it in, but do want to sort it. I've bought a cork gasket to try as well as some proper gasket sealant and will drop the sump and see if it can be cured.

The sump will leak forever, stick a drip tray underneath job done;-)

If resealing use some shit hot sealant avoid the likes of hylormar or any instant gasket stuff. You need something that goes off like the original thixo paste imo. I would not use the cork gasket they are shit from experience.

Yep all of that!

Remember (just about) buying some special expensive original black stuff to seal along with new half moon seals either side. Was good as gold

Right, probably my last update before my deadline...........work is now manic and obviously a lot on my plate this week.

Car has been running fine, dug out my old polished Williams wheels for the big day..................don't think the blue would quite fit in. Always loved these wheels on the car but they were loosing pressure, took them to a local tyre place who checked and all the rims were leaking against the tyres so they were all stripped and re-sealed.

Car was then taken on Saturday morning to have the tracking all checked out, it wasn't too far out after being re-assembled but always best to check.

They had to cable tie all the readers onto the wheels as the car was too low. Lad doing it was a good laugh but got quite a queue in the waiting room.

Then Sunday took it for a drive out with the Mrs to be, even let her have a go. Cars been spot on, good oil pressure, great temps, come up on boost nicely. Happy Days.

All's good for the weekend................ big thanks again @sparkie and Ryan

Tinkered again last night, after assuming the idle issues were carb related.......... they were not. A few quick texts with Mark and he asked if i had the 1.7mm restrictor in the breather to the back of the manifold.........errr nope.

I don't remember ever having it either, so I'm unsure how it must have been plumbed in before. Anyhow, blocked it up and now its running spot on.

Clutch cable is now the only issue, new one ordered so i'm hoping it turns up quickly and resolves the issue.

Hi mate,
Impressive work, I’m also restoring one a have idle going up and down erratically, same as you described. The restriction you refer to goes to the back of the intake manifold or the exhaust manifold?

Restrictor is number 13 - mm hole - goes in pipe number 8 to the inlet in the diagram below
