5 GT Turbo Deadline 9th June 2018

Block has been cleaned and fully degreased. From recommendations I'm going to order some POR 15 engine enamel paint and get that on. The sump and rocker cover will be stripped and painted too. I'm just waiting on the paint stripper to work its magic, its a slow process so i might get something more aggressive, but there is no rush. Mark is sorting out electro plating most of the brackets, anything missed will be painted.

Block was coated with Por 15 the other night, I've now prep'd the Sump and Rocker. Wondering if I should get a little more creative with the rocker than just black?

In other news, most engine internals are now on their way to me, I've purchased a T25 turbo to be rebuilt and I'm talking to a few specialists for the right setup. Mark is on the case with a new Cam and supporting hardware.

Its great when parts start landing on my desk. New pistons and liners arrived with other engine internals. I have a parcel from Pheonix Autosport which I'll open and check out later at home, something I think will add to my OE+ look. John Wards items also turned up which I must say are great.

I could also do with body shop guys advise. My car doesn't have the rear spoiler fitted, basically the boot was changed when it was resprayed as the original had started to rust, the replacement was from a campus. I have a spoiler, even had it painted years ago but due to the construction the paint has cracked as the spoiler is quite flimsy. I'll be getting it re-painted but wanted to know the best way to fix it to the car............or should I just get the body shop who paint it to fit it?

Pistons and Rods have been connected. Last night Mark came round to start building back up. Pistons are all in the new liners, the Crank, Shells and bearings are all in place and turning freely. Oil pump rebuilt and shimmed slightly, pump was checked over and moved freely. I'm waiting on a bottom end gasket set from Mike at GT Turbo Spares but it’s a real struggle trying to get hold of him and his website payment is down, might have to go elsewhere as its going to hold up progress if we don't have them by the end of next week. Cam ("Special Brew"/"Heinz 57") and Vernier arrived with Mark, just need to sort some springs.

Nothing to report on my painted items, the house took over last week!............but its progressing :)

Last Month has been a little slow due to my availability, with the deadline looming i'm not going as OCD in the engine bay as planned, that can wait until next year when i'll hopefully have more time. Plan is now to get this engine finished and just drop it in. Current gearbox might get a lick of paint in situ so it looks half decent.
Cam, pistons and liners were installed Tuesday and timing all sorted, decided not to use the adjustable as it was where it needed to be. I'll hang onto it unless anyone needs one? Last night the oil pump, sump and head went on, few little issues that have slowed us down like missing washers but nothing major. Starting to look more like an engine.

Few more items sorted the weekend in between plasterers causing the most amount of mess! Exhaust manifold prep'd and sprayed with a high temp paint. Rocker Cover finally painted too. Mark popped round Sunday night and torqued down the head and fitted the water pump and rocker assembly. Its really not far away from being complete now. Plan is to drop it into the car the last weekend of the month. That gives me a month to sort the MOT and test drive it........... scary how quick time passes.

I've also added to my wheel addiction with another set of Williams alloys. They were in a messy state with plenty layers of paint. A dip, blast and powder coat has done them wonders!

them wheels look hard (y) tidy work going to be so clean you wont want to use it

I'm gagging to use it to be honest mate. I'll look after the bugger and keep it clean but cant wait to give it a good blast. Running in the engine is going to be a test of my restraint!

So the engine now looks like an engine again and Ryan is booked in for the 28th to help me get it in the car. I must say a massive thank you to @sparkie as he has gone out of his way to squeeze an hour in here and there to essentially educate me in how to build an engine. Just watching the man work has taught me loads. Thanks mate

To make sure i dont come unstuck on the 28th, i'm just making sure i have all items needed to get it in and running. I've been and purchased a new battery as the old one tended to run flat anyway. Is there any specific oil to run in for the first however many miles? I've got some Total Quartz as recommended but don't want to use that just to bed the engine in. I have new filter, new leads, dizzy etc.

As the cars been laid up, I wondered if I should get a new fuel filter and pump. Any recommendations for a decent make / up grade?

Any other suggestions welcomed.
