Dead Vee!

Out in the Vee yesterday. Parked up, switched off. Too far away from the pavement so tried to restart up and park better.

All electrics ok, click of solenoid, no starter motor.

The starter motor is only 2 years old - i replaced it when the original starter packed in due to the glue/magnets issue. Have had no problem since and probably used it no more than 50 times.

Though it might be jammed so rocked the car in gear, still nothing.

Luckily not far from home so returned this morning to bump start the car using a tow rope

Wont bump start.........

All back home now, dead clio in the drive......

am assuming i have a dead starter but any suggestions as to why it wont even bump start?

Check the obvious such as the battery and battery terminals! Check the earth strap to the gearbox is clean and tight. These are the first ports of call before looking any deeper and tend to be the cause, also check power cable on the starter solenoid is tight! Good luck :approve:

Could be: Battery, terminals, starter motor, immobiliser.

If the starter motor is newish, then unlikely. I’ve not known Ph2 to have immobiliser issues. Terminals unlikely to have disconnected themselves. Batteries often give up in winter time… any idea how old it is?

no, it was fitted when i bought the car. i do keep it on a trickle charger as well.....

My project 996 is on permanent trickle and wouldn’t start last week… new battery and ‘hey presto’.

The historic advice was (when desperate) to use jump leads too; there were stories of bump starts potentially damaging the cats.

put a battery tester on it today. battery is fine apparently.

am going to chock starter connections tomorrow....
