Crank shaft pulley

Just wondering if it is standard procedure to replace the crank shaft pulley (+ bolt for the pulley) when getting the auxiliary belts done? I have got the aux belt kit which has belt, tensioner, damper and idler pulley.

As I'm getting the cambelt and aux belt done end of this month, Renault HK said that the crank shaft pulley should also be replaced or are they just trying to rake in a few more $$$?

I would say the bolt does need changing

From experience and advice from a well known UK expert the bolts can stretch and isnt expensive to replace

The pulley depends on condition in my case it was well worn and again not that expensive

Dont forget to change the water pump as well - engine out for cambelt change makes this easier to change :)

PM me if you need any help with the dealer as I know them well and can make sure you dont get ripped off !

Thanks guys!

I have got the water pump and water pump seal ready so they will be done as the same time as the cambelt.

I am sure the bolt for crank shaft pulley shouldn't cost much and could be sourced from Renault HK. Just worry that I cannot get the pulley in time before the service.

Short of visual inspection of the pulley, any other signs that would indicate the pulley is on the way out?

My engine is currently out of the car in having 10 year cambelt and associated belts etc done, they have just phoned to say that this pulley is heavily worn on my car and they reccomend doing it now while the engine is out anyways.

It was an extra £150 so its getting done for peace of mind :approve:
