So i've got to the point with my engine strip that i cant go any further until i can get the pulley off.Is there a little trick or should i of loosened it when there was still compression in the engine?Obviousley when i get a breaker bar on it the crank is just going to turn so im a little bit stuck :?

Any ideas plz ???

flywheel has already been removed.the flywheel bolts dont have much of a head on them spose i can always get new bolts anyway

Use a pin to lock the crankshaft counterweight through the hole near the dipstick. Do you have a Haynes manual? This would be useful for you.

yeh got a manual.is the bolt a reverse thread or anything like that?

i dont like to use a manual unless im putting something back together :)

in the past i've made up a puller:

this consisted of a metal plate with two holes. pass some long screws through the holes and screw them into the crank sprocket.

the middle of the metal plate (between your two screws) touches down onto the crank bolt (yes put that back in again) and tightening the two screws equally will lift it off.

let me know if that's confusing! it's possible to break the flange on the sprocket if you simply try to lever the thing off.

shame you dont have a pic of that

Yeah, those pulleys are made from Dairylea

My puller slipped and pulled the edge off the blasted thing. Thankfully I got another one, but getting properly in back of it with something that spreads the load evenly is the trick if you have broken it already. Otherwise it's worth making a puller for it. The bolts that hold the crankcase endplate on fit in the screwholes.

Dial, dial, dial, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. It'll come off eventually.

twat it, twat it, twat it in a circular motion and wiggle

so after little bits of the sprocket flying everywhere it came off fairly easily.but yes i destroyed it :) oh well add that to the list of parts.

next job is get the crank and pistons out.

how do you remove the dipstick tube?

just pull the tube straight out. it helps to twist and wiggle it with a pair of grips.

i guess if you've got the sump off you could knock it out from underneath with a drift

if youre taking the crank out you can just remove it with the oil seal housing in place, then when it's out of the block you can slide the housing back to allow to get your normal 3 jaw puller on it fully and easily.
