Cool little Gordini Turbo "baby Turbo 2"

When someone writes "haven't had time to even lift the bonnet to see what the problem is " you know that means Sold As Seen with all sorts of problems! ;)
And yes these 5 Gordinis were amongst the original hot hatches and the first ever Renault hot hatch but so few left. Probably no more than 30 original and turbos in total left in uk. Plus the mid engined ones.

True, but general condition of the car looks very good, and the engine bay is very tidy and complete which is pretty unusual for these cars. Even if well described you're going to be taking a punt on how long left the engine has got in it with these cars. Sounds like this one will need an engine rebuild, but if that's it then it's a bargain with others going to 15-20k.

I remember looking at turbo 2s ages ago thinking they were a bit pricey at around 25-30k. Who would've thought they'd be fetching 4 times that now.

Smoke will either be turbo seals or valve stems, easy fixes, biggest problems were warping heads and oil starvation leading to rattle cams. These keep coming out the woodwork so not extremely rare yet.

They are surprisingly rare Simon. according to howmanyleft there are less than 20....
10 Gordinis from 79 to 81 and and 8 Gordini Turbos from 82 to 85 ( most SORN) so even if these figures are a bit out there is probably less than 25 left. McLaren F1s are common as muck by comparison ;)
a campaign should be started to save Renault's Hot hatch heritage from disappearing!

I expect those figures are quite out as most will be sitting in barns and garages. A few have come up for sale recently as one went up for sale for 20k which has got owners pulling them out of the shed. Despite this, probably still looking at no more than double digit numbers in the whole country. I'd love one, they look great and have such cool retro style to them.

Those figures come from the dvla and it doesn't matter if they are sitting in a barn they still have to be sorn or taxed. Sure there might be a handful that have not been registered for 30 years so might slip through the system but if its been taxed in the last 20 odd years then it should be sorn and in the dvla figures

Have a look on turborenault.co.uk and you will find links to what is going on with R5 Gordini’s and Turbos, I have a couple so didn’t realise I had 10% of the uk stock!

That's interesting rustedandrotten . your own Heritage collection! what models/years have you got? are they runners or wrecks? any pics?
I have just registered on turborenault.co.uk to have a look around and it is an interesting site. lots of activity too and covers some non turbo models. I know DaveL485 is the top guy on there and it looks like a really useful site.

With regards to the numbers of cars left I found a post on there from 11 years ago where someone had contacted the DVLA direct and there were only 40 Gordini turbos listed in 2007 so it looks like 3/4s of those have been lost to rust and breaking for parts in the last decade.

Thanks, i'm one of the five muppets that owns/runs the club and shop (but the only one with a V6! :) ), always after more content, contributors, cars, ideas, suggestions etc. It's fairly active for a niche site, especially a forum when a lot of traffic these days is on social media. We have hoovered up a few smaller sites, our forum tech Andy is fantastic with integrations so we on boarded and absorbed the costs of 2 gordini forums, the 21 Turbo OC, Retro Renault, R5Turbo.co.uk too I think and hosted all their legacy data (look at the bottom of the forum list, it's all accessable in the legacy formats) then all the active users have just integrated into our current structure ongoing. I did offer to absorb this forum too but I got chased out of the room hahaha :D its turned into a great community, we're pleased with it. We also liaise with other clubs, we share the cliosport sites ClioSport Saturday event and usually try and take over their afternoon track sessions :P (August if you fancy it!)
