'Teamwork' - thats what my local mechanic said to me. I'm buying the parts to fix a siezed hub swivel bearing on my RS Megane 225 Cup and he's fitting them. (I would prefer to take the car to a specialist, but there aren't any in N.Ireland!!)

So I've managed to order the lower needle bearing, inner race and O ring but I can't find anywhere online the part that is the top mount on the swivel assembly. If the whole lot is taken apart I might as well replace this too ??
Any advice on the part number/stockists would be gratefully received.

Chris

Do you mean the top bearing on the swivel hub ?? Its not available seperate from renault they supply the full hub.

I doubt it will need replacing, they never seem to fail. You would need to get the part number off the original whilst in bits and order one from a bearing manufacturer.

I think the bearing on the top of the swivel hub is the same as the on on the bottom?? There a few garages that replace the top and bottom bearings when they are being serviced although the top bearing isn't usually needing replaced

...and we sell these in the club shop, when I get around to ordering more stock.

The top bearing is a cartridge bearing totally different to the blind cage lower swivel bearings.

The top bearings never seem to fail as they are well sealed. The bottom generally seizes as it is not sealed well from the elements.

I have a picture of the top bearing if needed, it's not from my car it's from another site. My local bearing place could get them no bother but it's actually two bearings in series on each side 4 total. In Ireland here it was going to cost me like €200 to do the top bearings!

Oh I feel super-guilty now for not responding sooner, my weak excuse is that the site sent me an email for the first reply but not for any of the subsequent ones, so I'd assumed my post was way too dull !!
Thanks to DaveL485, Briggsy, Dave_gtt, and Ewan for taking the time.

Well, two BK4520 bearings, 2 IR40-45-20 inner races and 2 52mm/4mm O rings are sitting on my kitchen table. I will hand them to my tame mechanic and report back in due course.:bn:

So, handed Gary the parts and a printout of the instructions how to do the job (he didn't seem offended !)
He said 'How much did you say they charge for this back in England?'
£240 inc VAT was my reply.

Returned at 5pm to collect the car - job done, they'd also replaced the CV boots as they'd had it.
Gary had finished early as I found out it was his birthday, paid the bill - £240.

Car handling - steering feedback is transformed.

So for those RS Megane owners in N.Ireland, you know where to go when your car wont drive in a straight line!!!
