Coils

Car has been garaged away for a few months now. Turned it over on Friday (all fine) went back Sat and was going to take it out. Started the engine up my first coil had gone_well 2 actually. Just thought it was strange that I've not even driven it, the coils have been fine for my 2 years of ownership then 2 go just by starting the engine up!

I've now replaced all the coils with Valeo items so hopefully these should be fine (they were on my mk1 when I replaced them).
;)

My MK 1 popped coils when I hadn't driven it for a few weeks. Usually in the winter, before my garage had heating pipes running through it.

ive only ever had 1 coil go and that when i drove it after the car hadnt been started for 3 weeks. maybe theres something in it!

Out of interest - did you guys rev the car up or blip the throttle soon or immediately after starting in these conditions ?

Martin

i let it tick over for a minute or two, drove around a car park then out onto the main road for about 50-100 yards then it went, doubt it even went over 2k rpm. no throttle blipping, only marginal accerlation used.

Not on mine - let it tick over and warm up before driving.

The garage its stored in is cold though and in 5 years of ownership not had a coil go.

Incidentially, the place I bought my 6 new coils from said this year they have stocked 1000 coil packs and have to date sold 780 of them!

Which place? :)

btw 78 per month, 10 Citroens and 2 Pugs bought a complete set. :)

EK Brakes in Lancaster. They supply all the major garages across Lancashire and Cumbria.

The reason I ask is that there was some conjecture a while back about an ECU initiation sequence for coils which needed time to run before the throttle was blipped or engine/coil put under any load ...

Martin

I had another go the other day when i turned it over at work....i think it was my last remaining sagen one.....

myself and matt must be one of the only ones that has not needed a coil yet......................... bet i need one tomorrow :ihatepcs: [smilie=icon_cry.gif]

ahhh the dreaded coil debate the coil fitted as standard may not be able to cope with the heat in the enclosed engine bay tophy coils being from a race pedigree may handle it better would be intrested to know if anyone with a trophy coil has had a failed one yet ?

dont like to talk about it but...... in over 4 years Vee ownership covering 23000 miles, several trackdays, short hop runs and 1000km+ motorway runs......never yet had a failed coil.
