Coil

coil just gone pop, wasnt even driving it hard just going about 20mph. i thought the exhaust had fallen of or loosened, it was just spluttering and sounded crap then engine warning light came on.

Luckly I was only 1 mile from my work place so drove it back @15mph with hazzards on :D

from start to finish took me about 1hr to fix.

Thanks to this [smilie=bowdown.gif] site otherwise

1) would have carried a spare
2) wouldnt have known how to diagnose and fix it
3) would have spent a ton of cash at dealership

I believe this is the third one to go, previous owner reported two failed coils.

^^ typo on the above

1) would have carried a spare should have read:

I'd also like to join you in saying ta very much to all on this site.

Thanks to many of you, I'm well and truly prepared for the dreaded Coil issue (which fortunately I haven't suffered from yet!).

How did you know which one to whip out? :s

easy peasy...just unclip them one by one...if the car drops to 4 cylineders..that coil has been fine...if it makes no difference..thats the faulty coil :)

^^ the engine has to be running mate, colin explained it to a T, the notes of the engine drop considerable so you no that one is ok.

I was always concerned with how i would no if one went, its obvious, the car looses tons of power, sounds toss and engine warning light comes on.

I agree :approve:

Cannot believe it. Last night another coil went kaput on me. Thats three in seven months. I've only done 16k. I am livid. Despite the almost guaranteed response of 'no', i am still gonna ring Renault UK to complain and request all coils are replaced, if only to get it on record.

Thanks to this forum i had my mini socket set, torch and replacement coil (from Peugeot) tucked neatly behind the passeger seat. Found the duff coil and replaced in 10mins flat. Job done. Still P!ssed off though.GGGRRRRRR!

Sorry to hear that pal!

I hit 16K the other day and no coils gone yet.... [smilie=hide.gif].

All ready for the eventuality though!!

Am I right in thinking that if they've all been done (like mine have) that should be it ??

Replaced one last week, then yesterday at least one more (maybe two) died on me. My warranty runs out in December so i decided Renault can sort this out. I have kept the old duff coils (three) and put them back in it [smilie=hide.gif] , loaded it on an AA recovery truck and sent her off to the stealer so with any luck, they'll replace up to four coils at their cost. They said they will try to get Renault UK to replace all six (fat chance).

On a side note, has anyone ever noticed how recovery truck drivers are a bit like London cabbies? -"you won't believe what car i picked up last week....etc" -This one today said he had an enzo that had caught a wheel on a concrete post coming out of the Eurotunnel, big chunk out of the alloy and tore the tire apart [smilie=icon_aaargh.gif] .
