Coil pack gone, can I drive home?

Coil pack has just gone, no spare, isolated which one, have to wait upto 3 hrs for the RAC, already been 1hrs.

Will I do any damage if I limp the 8 mile journey home? I'm assuming the RAC won't have spares?

Just ordered a load to keep in glove box....

Unlucky Ant... Driving isn't advised due to risk of damaging the cats.

That reminds me to put my spares back in the car!!!

Hope it's not too long an evening for you :(

Ha yes I won't be doing that again, I have a full set on the way already and I will keep the old as spares! From what I read this seems to be the only problem the V6 suffers from!

Lesson learned for next time.....

Interesting the one that's failed is a Sagem,
Boy oh boy why can't they just stick to valeo....

Yup... the old Sagem ones are duff. Valeo coils are far less likely to fail.. I'm not going to tempt fate by saying never.. Lol

Anyone know where the row bar is??
Towing eye should be in the tool kit............and no, coils aren't the only thing that can fail...........but I think you were just unlucky to have one go so soon.

Well had enough, abandoned the car as the flat lift eta was 3hrs, I'm diabetic and would be in a coma if I had to wait that long, that would of been a 7hrs recovery time.....

They can refund my taxi and if my car is damaged over night, they can pay for that also.

They say it comes in threes.

1. Issues with paint
2. Problems with alloy refurb
3. RAC = biggest joke of it all.

If it's any consolation: AA are just as bad.

Ha!

Wound myself back down to earth now. If someone could tell me what size socket I need that would be a great help. It must be a 9 or 8mm?

Coils are ready to collect so will get a lift to the car later.

Cheers, packed 7,8,9,10 to be on safe side ;-)

It's the coil pack directly behind the drivers head so nice and easy to change.

Also, I know its too late now but the tow eye was in the toolkit under the drivers seat in my Mk2, just worth checking out for future referance

Maybe you should pack a spare insulin syringe/glucose tablets in the glove box with the spare coils?
Just as a precaution,
I have been a type 1diabetic from the age of seven I'm now fifty seven so I do understand your concern
I don't go anywhere now in the car without the above
Best of luck fitting the new coil

Disconnect the fuel injector on the same cylinder. Essentially shutting the cylinder down like many modern cars do on motorways. It won't ruin the cats and you can get home fine. It will just run rough until all fired up again.
