cheapest ways to get 300hp for mk1 vee

Tuning a GTA engine costs BIG bucks, ino a couple guys who have tuned GTA's. one of the GTA's (Supercharged) owes him well over £20k now.

Heres one of them - Ferrari throttle body, 3.7 conversion etc etc..

You'd be cheaper off tuning the V6 that's already in there.

Another thing to note is replacing the engine replaces the heart and soul of the car - wouldn't even be an option for me as it just wouldnt be the same car.

Tuning the original engine yes by all means, but giving it a heart transplant - no thanks.

Its all about the breathing girls, get the heads right and you will make the torque, make the torque at the right rpm and you will get the power, however, get it wrong and there will be an expensive heap of scrap.
IMHO, get the heads digitised then cnc milled for max flow., the valves are big enough, its so easy!!...........brett.

I agree. Pretty much what I said back in post 8 in the last sentence. After driving Mr Patchals car, it made it clear to me that there are good gains to be had by sorting the breathing properly.

Re: cheapest ways to get 300hp for mk1 vee

As Tim V6 will testify - the cheapest way is to buy someone else's project... [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Hey guys......a vee is NOT a vee if you transplant a rice-rod or pasta-blasta engine to it !!!!!!!!!
are we not purists??.....is this not what this web site is all about??
Love it OR hate it, the vee engine is the character and soul of the car, and I speak as one who is also the owner of a 550bhp GTR33.....it's not all about bhp....or is it something to brag about on web forums?? [smilie=doubt.gif]

I agree. I spent over £15,000 on an aging A seires engine and gearbox to keep my Mk1 Mini original. . . . . Looks like I'm doing the same with my Vee now though lol.

why are you putting a A series engine in youre vee for :)

Think it would cost a fortune to build a 300bhp+ V6.
It would then probably become unusable on the road and would probably only be usable for competition.
Why not build a special, something like the Andy Burton Pugeot 306 Cosworth (see on youtube) or go the whole hog and buy a Metro 6R4.

Yeah your not wrong. But what it does prove it that with a well sorted top end, exhaust manifolds and remap its very possible and still a lovely car to drive. I think I'm right in saying that Simon and Ben are having another look at mapping perfect it even more.

Hello Guys,
Thank you so much for those good suggestions!
For those active vee performace lover; I have my opinions as following:
1. Cheapest way to get 300hp or more; .... by supercharge
2. Weight lowering .... to enhance handling.
For the first topic:
I take supercharge rather than change engine is because mounting is not easy and all engine , gearbox and others cost too much. In my country, change different engine is not allowed but adding supercharge would be easier for not being checked out. So keeping the standard engine and adding a suitable supercharge (small one) and fix a good size pully can boost power to or more than 300hp without changing too many origanal parts. One side of the in air panel could be used for cooling. ECU might not need to be enhanced for oil supply, but oil pressure regulator, may be needed. If still not enought, than extral ECU. The problem, I concerned is the gearbox...... any suggestion?
Also, if not use supercharge, then, I don't know whether we can find any suitable engine internal up-garding parts, like: ......conn, piston, valve guids, spring etc. I think engine polish for in and exit air is needed too.
2. Weight lowering:
I think all we agreed that our vee is too heavy at the back and relatively light at the front, so anything of weight reducing for the back is good! and lowering a few cm for the engine also ok.
What I have done is:
a. Airbags safed almost 10 kg,
b. carbon door panels (two) 10 kg,
c. Hi Fi 6 to 8 kg
d. manual window regulators and mirrors 5 kg
e. engine top cover ( those plastic ) 8 kg
f. budket seats ( 30 to 40 kg )
g. A/C 15 kg;
h. exhaust 10 to 30 kg (steel or titanium)
i. Finally subframe change to titanium 30 kg at back
Those, weight reducing should greatly change the weak of vee handling and enhance good control for such a nice looking car. My target weight reduction : 1050 kg . That is my opinions and wish you guys could give me some more good suggestion see how to futher improve our lovely vee! [smilie=yay.gif]

Nice list and optimistic ideas,
If an engine change is not allowed why not increase the capacity of the original to 3.4 litre, how could anyone even tell?? easyer than the list you propose and you dont destroy the car or move from the original specs too much, easy 300 if the heads are done correctly with the project.
and you will still have a/c and a wireless.

a low boost rotrex with some clever brackets to keep AC (on road cars) bolt on and remap would be good ;)
