Cat D on PH...

Anyone know anything about this? I have e-mailed him regarding the car and this is the reply:

The car is a Cat D because it has been in an accident before and the insurance company decided not to fix it. Alot of these cars end up this way as new panels can cost £1000 each new from renault so it doesnt take much to make them uneconomical for the insurance companies to repair.

I've asked him to expand on the accident damage and provide photos if possible.

Cat D Number 166

the cambelt is a year over due so when you factor that in (personally i would want a service at the same time for peace of mind), your looking at an 10.5-11k car, that is a cat-d. the seats are a plus point, especially as you could sell them and make money if you wanted.

the non standard colour wheels and pods put me off, as does the mention of a dent in the roof, makes you wonder what else could potentially be wrong.

its pretty cheap, but also, will be harder to sell on than a straight example, which are only a a couple of grand more. id say go and see it but proceed with caution and have a blooming good close up look all over it.

The dent in the roof is a bit worrying, especially if it is still there from the accident and they couldnt be bothered to fix it. He's sending through photos of the damage and hopefully what happened in its bump...

Cant help but think the mars red in the classifieds for 12k is the sale of the century :race:

I emailed also, no service history at all and was bought from an auction. He said he would send more pictures but doesnt have any of the damage

I was looking on the register we have and it seems it was on PH in 2007 with the exact same mileage [smilie=doubt.gif]

I would need a full history of the accident and subsequent repairs involved before considering a purchase BUT that said the cost of original parts for the vee is the main reason they are written off and quite often the damage can be purely cosmetic.

Simply put: buyer beware :s

The Mars red one looks decent and it was on ebay at £12,000 but with a best offer option.

I'd go look at that one as well, you might just be able to find the difference if its a good one!

I've got some pics of a damage repaired blue V6 that was for sale a while ago, 'ill try and dig em out see if its the same car. (Had roof damage also)

Nope was number 86 apparently. Will post up pics in case it comes up in future. According to the register here it was a CAT B but I don't think those are ever allowed to be put back on the road. CAT C according to previous owner...

Mods feel free to move if appropriate

Number 86 was once owned by "razle" who had been searching the internet looking for parts to rebuild this Vee. We have a note that HPI shows as Cat B, but where this came from I'm not sure, as razle said it was a Cat C

It was serviced by K-Tec in April 2009 33k miles.

"The car was bought by two lads that worked at renault and had all the work carried out by renault themself with reciepts the car suffered no chasis or suspension dammage it rolled very lightly, it had replaced roof, center bar (its the bar you can feel when you push roof down in the middle) one side pod and front bumper and thats all the parts."

So thats not the one advertised Azrael?

Sorry if not clear, the car I had pictures of was number 86 the car being advertised is number 166

Just thought it worth sharing what I had before I lost it forever :) it also shows the kind of damage level associated with such cars. Although it can vary greatly.
