Cant polish a turd???....yeah what ever!

Ha! Thats easy. Instead of having a single silencer sitting across the car, it'll have a small cat and a silencer attatched to each turbo outlet. That will get it through the annual test anyway and long jouneys with the missus. Will even fit the stock bumper holes. For trips to france and blats out in summer evenings it'll be no cats and no silencers just two straight pipes. Sounds bonkers but I doubt it'll be much more vocal than a fully decated OMG as the turbos muffle the noise a fair bit.

A fully decatted 2.7TT sounds absolutely quality. And much louder than I thougt it would. Turbos don't take as much of the noise as you might think. Though your single large turbo may detract from it slightly.

I ran an open pipe on my turbo'd A seires and it wasn't at all ott. Will be louder with a free flowing larger turbo for sure.

This golf is running the exact same set up as me.

Gave the engine a good degrease and clean today. Came up looking ok to my surprise. After a bit more measuring, I think the gearbox is going to sit around 10cm too far out the back for use with a 100% standard bumper. Luckily it seems as if the typical centre section removal is all I need. I could move it forward slightly but I want this fitting with minimal modification. Bit gutting really as I would love to have had it back looking completely stock to the untrained eye and in iceberg. Anyway, onwards and upwards. I shall be making a jig up tomorrow so all the engine mounts fit perfectly before they go near the car.

What with holidays, work and our recent family car going bang I haven't really done much to it. However the car will be under my car port in the next week or so and it'll be final fitting time fella. The main thing is I'm still not bored of it yet [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Will be fine under the carport and backed up to the garage matey. Just need to get myself a nice welder now. I did promise myself a tig welder for this summer so the engine mount plates and Holset exhaust manifold can be welded up. unfortunately I spent nearly a grand on a pipefreezer for work so that went out the window! Lol

Well I made a jig today to represent all the import dimensions of the vee's engine bay and any restrictions I might come up against. Well im pleased to say it fits beautifully with plenty enough space for the gearbox. The two turbo's sit perfectly where i want them with a nice clean veiw of the side pods for cold fresh air. However they leave only 500-550mm for exhaust length so I think a pair of cats are going to be the only form of silencing. Luckily there is so much room either side of the engine that relocating them nearer the front of the engine bay shouldnt be a problem.
The engines location sits noticeably lower in between the chassis rails and quite away further forward than the heavy renault lump. I'm hoping this will be the single biggest improvement with the build with extra power being the usefull by product of opting for the 2.7t engine and transaxle.

Tomorrow I shall be mocking up the two engine mounts ready for weld over the coming weeks.

Haha. The jig doesn't look much and its hard to make out how it sits unless you have a tape measure in hand. I shall post some pics of the engine mounts tomorrow but the next real pictures will be with it in place. [smilie=yay.gif]

Two piece engine mounts mocked up and ready to be replicated in steel this week...
Have no idea how to upload the pictures. They are too big apparently

Looking forward to it myself and enjoying fiddling with it (feckin it up).
I know not much has happened over the last year but alot of planning and research has gone into it so it fits first time with out too many head aches. I want the engine to fit the car not the other way round.
Im hoping by next week the mounts will be with me.

Few shitty pictures but you get the idea. Plenty of space either side of the block for air flow and needed plumbing.

The prototype before the final product
