All,
Many Thanks to all the suppliers that answered by emails. And especially thanks to Ben from Angleworks (www.angel-works.co.uk) who cooked up the below for club memebers. I hope you are all happy with the below. Rather than paraphrase Ben i've pasted his mail below. Looks good to me (well not for me tho, :-( as I have done my belts already!) But I think the deal is good. Please post up your interest!

Headlines for 10+ people
OEM (Renault boxed parts £508.10 (deposit) + £298.40 (on collection) = £806.50
OE (motor factor parts) £240.26 (deposit) + £331.79 (on collection) = £572.05

Cheers

Hello Peter,

Total job list is:

· New Cambelt kit (3 idlers, 1 tensioner & belt) replaced
· Water pump replaced
· Aux belt replaced
· PAS fluid replaced
· Coolant Replaced
· Aircon degas & re-gas
· 8 hours labour for complete engine & sub frame removal.

Here are the final Prices PER customer INC vat.

Using all OEM parts:
1 customer = £1078.80
5-10 customer = £942.43
10+ customers = £806.50

Using OE parts:
1 customer = £787.41
5-10 customer = £685.36
10+ customers = £572.05

OE parts are gates Cambelt kits, as per OEM parts minus the Renault box. There is a significant saving, but this is entirely up to the customer as to what they feel comfortable using. It has to be said, that although both OE and OEM parts carry the same warranty, if anything were to happen, it would be easier to claim anything through Renault rather than through a long winded process of motor factors, agents & manufacturers as the parts have to be removed and sent away for analysis.

All special tools for the job are used.

The process would have to be as follows:
· Number of customers finalised
· A non refundable deposit paid to cover purchase of parts at discount price and to ensure that any drop out from the GB list result in no loss on my behalf for the upfront purchase of all the parts
· Final amount paid upon completion of the job
· Customer to provide prior booking on a first come first serve basis. Weekday bookings only as weekends are reserved for racing/testing/social activities, apologies if this causes too much of an inconvenience.
· The job will take longer than 1 working day as it is just me working on the car. Customers are welcome to provide evening drop offs and collections after their own job working hours. E.g. drop off at 8-9pm and collection at 8-9pm on the second working day thereafter.

The deposits breakdown is as follows.

Using all OEM parts:
1 customer = 70%
5-10 customer = 63%
10+ customers = 63%

Using OE parts:
1 customer = 50%
5-10 customer = 39%
10+ customers = 42%

I have tried to create a mutually beneficial GB concept which will not put either me not the customer out of their way too much. I hope this presents a usable saving and a GB schedule that can be stuck too without too much complaint.

Regards

Ben Rushworth

I'm definately interested BUT I want mine doing fairly soon so this would have to happen within the next couple of weeks for me to put my name down as a definate.

Thanks for the effort you have put into organising this Peter :approve:

OK so timing here is going to be key.

No-one wants to do it too early and "waste" time from the 5 years. Likewise no one wants to go over 5 years and take a risk. I think this is going to limit numbers if we are not careful.

I'll check this, but IMO deposits are the key. I feel sure as long as they are paid up front (so the parts can be bought at zero risk), and we make a firm booking date, then we should be able to be flexible within reason. Next year is clearly a little too late Andy! :(

Peter

I think we will struggle to get 10 people at once to be honest but I hope its possible. There is also the location issue. Its about 170 miles from where I am but at such a good price I'm prepared to travel. Some others may not be.

I agree Suggs! If you want local and are happy with Renault then go for it. Most on here are happy to travel if the reasons are good enough. Specialist machinery deserves a little time and care...

Reminder on fuel costs (This is worst case scenario)

20 miles per gallon (you WILL get more than this on the motorway)
£1 per litre (you can buy 95ron for less which is fine for an amble down the motorway)
4.5 litres per gallon
so £4.5 per gallon

so £4.5/20 = 22.5pence per mile (thats pretty HARD driving on optimax)

100 miles is only £22.50
200 miles is only £45.00
300 miles is only £67.50

I reckon if you pootle along at 70 on 95 RON you could halve that! 30+MPG on a long run it not hard.

Yes I know its miles on the clock, and clutch tyres brakes etc, but its NOT a lot of wear as motorway in 6th is easy on the car.

How much are you looking to save? IMO its travelling back thats harder when you leave the car...

Suggs 170 miles each way equates to only about £75 petrol for there and back. Much less than the savings available!

Just some food for thought.

Cheers

As I said, for me the travelling is worth the discount but other members may not feel the same or might live even further away.

Come on guys, get your names down!

Out of interest Peter, would Ben supply the parts if we were to get the work done elsewhere?

I'd still be interested in this but at the cheaper OE price at the mo.....
Mine change is overdue so sooner is probably better for me.

Thanks for organising this Peter! :D

Given they are based at Kimbolton, could be some opportunities to tie this in with the Meet this year i.e. book the work either side of the weekend and make a longer stay out of it etc.

I'll ask.

Excellent work there Peter :approve: it sounds like a very good deal, unfortunately being almost 250 miles from me it's probably not suitable for me.

Cheers,

Phill

Can the people that are interested in going ahead with this group buy add their name the the list below? That way we can at least get an idea of numbers.

I am very interested in the Cambelt Group Buy:

2, Lucy J

Please add your name above and repost.

On group buying parts to fit elsewhere we can do that at group buy prices, but the numbers would not contribute to group buy numbers. So we still need 10 "fitted" customers to get the best deal for others buying just parts to fit themselves or elsewhere.

PLUS importantly...
I have confirmed that as long as you pay your deposit (the full cost of the parts as above) we can book the work as late as you want! [smilie=icon_cheers.gif]

So get your names down there is no excuse!

Right.... i'll put my name down for the group buy on the service but if we dont get enough people within the next few days i'll have to get it done elsewhere as I want it doing very soon.

I'm 100% in on the Cambelt Group Buy:
1, Suggs

Thanks Peter for organising my access to this members only area, hopefully I can be of direct assistance.

Good bargin hunting there Peter. Afraid, as their 204 miles away from me it's not going to be an option.

Thanks.

So that's 3 of us so far...

1. Suggs
2. Lucy J
3. CSLCraig

Be good if we could get at least 2 more people!!
