Blue smoke on over-run. Exhaust valve replacement?

G

Guest

My valver is starting to smoke on overrun, dropping a cloud of blue smoke out from 5000 rpm downwards.

I am running a decat and have been told this wont help the matter but more than likely its my exhaust/outlet valves on the head that are failing.

So my next question would be how easy a job is it to replace and how much would i be looking at?

Any help would be appreciative.

Thanks Mossy

i reckon do it your self got to be expensive from a garage getting the head off is easy enough the just got to compress the valves with a dohc valve compersser then change but not from renualt just got a quote for valves 87 for 4 inlets and a 100 for exhausts major rip buy a headgasket set and u get the stem seals with it

not so much the valves as the valve seals or the valve guides..

needs the head stripping and either new guides @ about 4 quid each iirc or just new seals..

might be worth getting a spare head to do the work on if you need the car...

then swapping over..when its done..

most do these days mate, tbh i'd just leave it and top up oil as necessary unless you intend to overhaul the whole lump or something

My currentl 130k F7P doesn't smoke at all on overrun but my old hybrid started doing this and seemed to loose a hell of a lot of power... ?

Think the idea of getting another head to rebuild is a good idea, or take it to a garage and get them to rebuild it as it'll be cheaper that way.

Definately lost loads of power when it happened to mine.. could have been other issues though i suppose

Can't imadgine leaking valve seals doing your emissions come MOT time any favours.

Buy a refurbed head or buy another an refurb, take the opportunity to get some porting done to.

Check that all the breather hoses are clear before spending money on rebuilding the head.
