Bleed valve fit and set up

Forgive my ignorance but a bit new to fiddling with all things turbo'd.
I have read a few of the topics about this subject and have got the general jist. So you replace the amal valve with the bleed valve. By doing this you can rev the engine and it will operate the turbo as it would in second gear and beyond.
How do you set up the max operating pressure?
do you rev the engine till you get max boost indicated and tweak it up till you reach your ideal amount or what?

To set the boost pressure you have to drive it and play......keep the amal valve in place (its taken me a while to realise its there for safety not for looks) place the bleed valve in Actuator take off pipe close it fully then unwind by a 1/4 of a turn, drive it, happy? dont adjust it, not happy, adjust it by another 1/4 of a turn and repeat the process..........

After a while you'll know in your fingers where it ought to be

Just make sure you do the locknut up tight, cos ive had one unwind itself on me........30psi is a bit scary   How it never went bang is beyond me 8)

ooh and when you do

wind the boost up make shure you measure the boost on a decent guage

si21

Amal valve

But with the amal valve in the circuit I will still be restricted in first gear right?
Is there a good diagram of where best to put it in?

PIKEY MOD LOL

wot do you need reversing lights for lol just unplug the reversing switch lead as it also tells the the car when its in first gear so unplug it and full boost in first

si21  very pikey mod

Restriction

My 2Ltr Turbo isnt actually in a 21 anymore. See small avatar for my car.
So I havent got a reverse light. Though the switch is still there if I want to wire it in later.
Also I read a thread about the ECU working out how fast you are going ie first gear or not, by comparing engine speed with the trip computer read out. Well bizarrely enough I havent go a trip computer as my dash is completely different.
I assume that as the amal valve should be fail safe it should be unpowered when in first gear then powered when in second or above.
If this is the case could I not just run a permanent live feed to the valve.
I assume as my car is still restricted despite not having a rear light switch or trip computer. What sends the signal to the amal valve?

mines never had a amal valve but i do belive u earth out the amal valve to by pass the 1st gear restrictor i may be wrong but i think that is how u do it you see the ecu mainly sends out earth signals to components not live feeds :) :)

Earth feeds

Yes that makes sense. So there would a live feed waiting for its path back to earth to open.
I will have to go mad with a set of small croc clips then.
Cheers mate

I think also to mention. Don't up the boost any more than 17psi.

You can go alot higher, as many of us have, but this is a safe pressure. Some cars have let go at 18psi #-o I just would'nt want you to think no one had warned you first.

Then It's just up to you, how far you go :-k

Andie.
