5 GT Turbo Big Steve's - Raider

I was one of the first guys to go full OE on a GTT, now the game has caught up I find myself moving away from the scene a little and trying out a few cheeky mods.... Kind of OE+ if you will...?

This year I'm sporting a fancy set of Williams Wheels I had refurbished and fitted onto my car this week. Got it taxed as of Yesterday, so a quick clean and a few pictures for prosperity were taken this afternoon. Enjoy! :af:

Got invited to show my car at the 2017 Meguiars Family BBQ event at their HQ in Daventry today together with my Best Man's @jas_racing Uno Turbo.

Knowing that his car is still achingly OE, I spent a weekend refurbishing, cleaning and fitting the OE wheels back onto my car in preparation for the event. When I re-fitted them I was reminded that for some reason, the OE wheels made the car pull like HELL to the to the Right and I didn't know why that was.. the car drove perfectly on the 15" Willy Wheels...?

My first thought was that he rubber build up from the French trackday I went to a couple of years ago was the reason, so I had already picked off the rubber from the edge of the tyre and was expecting that to solve the issue? But no..

To cut a long story short, I then started to go through each wheel one by one and soon found the culpret.. Have a look at me holding a ruler along the tread of a good tyre and compare the profile of the tyre to the knackered one on the left..

Yes the old Uniroyal tyre had ruptured after a days abuse on track and now the tyre was mis-shaped. I had a spare equally old & knackered Uniroyal to replace it with, fitted it and she was back to running straight & true. (I know there are newer tyres I can get for this car in the 185/60/13 size, but for the Raider wheels I'm still a fan of the OE size, so am hoping the guys at RETRO TYRES go ahead with their plan to build some new 195/55/13 tyres..)

Once the tyres were fitted, the car was back to it's original best and Jez and I drove over to the Meguiars BBQ in Convoy with his Uno Turbo. We got a few thumbs up driving down there together.. .as you can imagine, a minty 5GTT and Uno Turbo in convoy is some sight.

It was a great event, and I posted loads of pictures from the event in another thread HERE.

I was totally blown away when my car won an award from the event:

F*cking love this little car...:ax:

The old Raider has been called into action again this Friday to compete around a track against it’s Clio grandchildren for an upcoming feature in a magazine (I’m being a bit cagy on purpose).
I want her to put on a good showing versus her successors for all of us 5 owners so:
New Avon 195/55/13 tyres fitted:
85F08FCA-5642-41F1-8B29-835DE21CB6F6.webpA4A644DB-5232-4ADC-8BE6-43FDDA450358.webp182D93BA-78B4-4D04-BD7A-F6C383E9A4C6.webp

And new Koni Fully Adjustable Shocks all round:

Weather permitting she should do her best..

is it going to be written in a false manor where it says it the slowest of the bunch even when its not?
