Megane Big Steve's Megane R26 #1241 - The Clickorus!

Great work Steve, lovely looking R26.
As you mentioned stickers/decals - if you're ever after stickers in the future or anyone else for that matter then try this chap based in the UK: Retro BMW Decals
He mainly does stickers/decals for BMW's but will consider others. His attention to detail is faultless and managed to track down the exact dealer stickers that were on my car at the time of sale and copy them - great considering the original dealer went out of business years ago.
This link shows a few pictures of his meticulously restored BMW E24: photos of 2000al - Photo365, photo every day

Being a fan of the FULL original R26 Decal set, I wanted to re-fit them all to the car and looked at various options from 3rd party suppliers but in the end swallowed the bullet and paid the ~£160 for the OE Renault set :an: ...although when you read the rest of this thread, you'll see where the money is spent.

First I wanted to make sure that the roof was in tip top condition ready to accept the new decals. It looks like the car has stood under a tree for a long period of time as the roof skin appears to have been attacked by tree sap as there are lots of small little "holes" in the laquer. To try & improve this, I first flatted off and polished the whole roof:

The OE Renault R26 Roof Decal kit comes in a box all nicely rolled up, but when you unpack it, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense..??IMG_5192.webp
When you look at the individual pieces, you can see that they are numbered.. but again that doesn't seem to make a lot of sense? IMG_5194.webp
However when you start to lay them out on the car, you soon find out that the decals are cut to follow the contours of the roof-skin, and the edges of the decals, align with the edges of the roofskin:

I started with the smallest decal first, and applied it dry. The OE Decal set is cut to allow you to line up the position, and then remove half of the adhesive paper before you go ahead and stick the decal on:

I applied the first one dry, and it worked out well, but the next one when I did it dry, I had a few small bubbles that needed a touch of pin and squeegee action to sort, so from this one on, I applied the decals with a mist spray of water underneath before smoothing out with the spreader supplied in the kit:

And before you know it, ALL DONE!!

I'm very pleased with the results!! :dance.gif:

Thanks for reading :ay:

Dropped the Megane off to Mark Black this morning at Midland Renault Services in Creswell to get a few things done before my first track-day on 5th Nov at Donnington Park:

  • Fit Pro-Alloy Intercooler
  • Fix non operational Air Conditioning
  • Timing belt & water pump change
  • Change brake fluid for Motul 660 and ensure clutch fluid line is also bled
  • General service & once over

Agree as with most sports cars it you keep it sensible and play the cars strengths out the box it can be sensible to run and as you say not to silly to get there

They seem a hell of a lot of car for the money

Engine swaps only really come into play if it coat x thousand to get another 100hp and reliability / power band starts to suffer

Having never even been in basic 225 I image high 200hp is great fun still
