Best way to strip dirt, paint and rust frim parts???

As above,
I've stripped the front end of my car down and want to strip all the dirt, paint and rust off the subframe, wishbones, steering rack.....

What the best way to do this?
I bought a spot blaster and although it works, it will take me forever and cost a fortune in media and make an awful mess in my garage.

What else can I do? Other than paint stripper and a wire wheel?

Vapour blasting.

How much would that cost for a pair of wishbones and subframe on an R5 Dave?
I paid £80 to have that rocker cover and an inlet manifold done, plus the plate inside the manifold was removed, cleaned then drilled and tapped so it's now removeable. I'd imagine that was a good part of the cost tbh. I'll check he can do subframe sized objects if you want me to enquire for you.

Dave
I would lockwire or lock tab the plate fixing bolts as even with a locking resin the oil & heat will weaken the resin & allow the bolts to unwind and that could equal another engine.

I would always send off big bits like subframes, wisbones etc for blasting .Far better job and saves you hours of struggle with average results + it will find all the weak spots where a flap wheel wont .... .Ball park £50 for a full set of turbine wheels ,£40 for a GTA subframe, wishbones, antiroll bar and associated bracketry .Notts based

If yours cost £40 to do all the same bits I want and probably twice the size I will definitely do that.

I emailed a pic to 4 company's I spoke to today, not 1 has replied lol.

Google Gardias engineering in Oxford, Atkins was there last week too. I'll ask about subframes next time I speak to him though as I will want one doing too at some point.

I just received a quote

Wait for it

£200 - £250

For wishbones, subframe and anti roll bar, just stripped with a blaster and primed!

I guess I will wait for my new grinding wheels lol.

Pants down ...ffs some peolple take the piss...Was that the Oxford outfit ? Do they have a shed out back of the Bursar's digs ? southern hipsters and geeezeers .Move up 'tNorth ..we are an honest hardworking bunch .I've just been round the powdercoaters and my man has just dropped off half a ton + of Jag parts he's just blasted for him for what you've been quoted .

Funny enough it's icm that quoted me.
I told lee about them years ago. They are good but not "that" good. It's only paint stripping and priming.

I will try the other guys you said tho.

Gardias' prices and quality of work are good enough for me to drive a hundred mile round trip to drop stuff off and then again to collect.

he is primarily an engineering outfit though, it, head skimming, bore honing and the like.

Don't use paint stripper, it ends up in the double skin joints and you can never get it all out so will always react with new paint.
Some places may be cheap, I've painted a load of bits that had been sandblasted and powdercoated. Looked ok but when prepping the rougher bits found rust. Hence why I prefer to prep myself.
You can bare metal the whole thing but really if you spot blast the rough bits the areas that are still tidy will just need keying up

Last time I used Adept they had an AC Aceca shell being stripped of paint etc, they should easily cope with the 5.
