Best for parts?

So I received a really beautiful ph1 on Friday. No [v6plaque]441[/v6plaque]
I’ve done a lot of history checking and this car has been stood for almost five years.

As with anything I’d like to go through the car with a fine tooth comb and replace anything that looks tired. Although on first inspection everything looks pretty good. But certain things will put my mind at ease. Ie the cam belt was Changed only 3k ago but has stood idle for 5 years.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for the best part suppliers?

I’ll be starting with new tyres and brakes and going from there!

Thanks

The path of least resistance is to trailer the car to SGM and let him sort out the Cambelt plus advise on all other areas.

Otherwise, the V6clio.net is essentially a huge resource of information. It takes time to hunt down the correct information but it is all on here. Unfortunately, some replacement parts are simply not available and therefore ‘reconditioning’ is the only option. Renaultpartsdirect are worth touching base with, as they may be able to get you started.

I’ve searched this forum but checking if the details are still up to date really! It’s also nice to get people talking in this day and age. Lol great to meet you Kett

I’ve looked through the service history and sg have looked after this car since 2009 and even did the cam belt last. I definitely plan to touch base with him in the near future But don’t really want to travel 2,5 hours to change discs and pads lol. I’ll be doing a few things little and often. And once in a position to get major things done I’ll get them all done at once by SG !

Whereabouts are you based? There are a lot of knowledgeable folk on here who may be local to you...

I’ve had some bad experiences with local mechanics not knowing the idiosyncrasies of the Vee. Even fitting new disc and pads was a disaster!

Congratulations on your purchase btw. I’m a long term owner and it still gives me goosebumps every time I get out in it!

I’m based in Horsham West Sussex (near Gatwick)
I’ve only driven it twice and absolutely love it. I know I’m gonna have regular issues as first drive engine light came on (prob due to janspeed exhaust) so ordered a obd reader.
Second drive the temp gauge didn’t go over the second notch. I’ve so missed driving cars like this lol.

OE Tyres were Michelin Pilot Sports. Fresh rubber is going to be near the top of your shopping list. Michelin have remained the connoisseurs choice.
Worth registering yourself with Michelin.co.uk as there are occasionally cash-back deals. Sometimes Costco will have a special Michelin offer. Black Circles/Camskill/Oponeo remain the default options.
A few members have experimented with Ph1 tyre width tweeks. I haven’t paid much attention as I’ve been running a Ph2. Probably worth reading up on those recommendations.
: )

That’s great Thanks
I was planning on Michelin’s. Actually really good prices anyway! It is currently running Toyo proxes but perishing is visible so definitely worth a change. The discs and pads are ok but fancy some cross drilled and new pads along with stainless brake hoses. Lots planned but that said even basic parts seem to be hard to get without serious searching!

Without checking my facts: Ph1 & Ph2 brakes are pretty much the only common part between the models. OE discs & pads were silly money and are no longer available. APEC? made reproduction discs but seemed to have confused the data (so anything ordered needs the sizing specification verified). EBC have Red stuff / yellow stuff pads and list stainless braided lines.

I guess a specialist could cross-drill or groove those discs as you saw fit...

kett, Long time, its been a while since i looked but APEC are still doing the Ph2 fronts, these are different to the Ph1 in Diameter, are the Ph1 discs the same as a V6 Laguna?
There are lots of options on aftermarket for the Ph1 particularly if going for a two piece disc and carrier. Probably cheaper than the labour to cross drill the std discs.

Best place for parts is via SG! He knows which ones fit and where to get them. As he is the largest buyer of v6 parts, he also gets a better supply chain than others. As an example, I recall a country wide shortage of cambelts a few years ago and the other specialists could only get them on back order, but SG was the only place that could get them quickly as his supplier kept them on the shelf for him.
Scott is an extremely useful chap to know to keep a Clio V6 running.
For rare second hand bits, keep your eyes on leboncoin.fr or eBay. But do bare in mind a number of the new parts listed on eBay as Clio V6 fitment, don’t actually fit the Clio V6 (particularly clutches and brakes).

Thanks for the advice guys.
I will definitely be in touch with SG shortly. Slowly building a list of requirements and then a make a worthwhile visit!

Ph1 and 2 both use the same 330mm discs and callipers.

Change the thermostat, and the seal in the housing. Renault don't supply the seal any more but Citroen do, the P/N is on a thread on here, I posted it when i sourced mine.

Thanks guys
Lots ordered. Just one biggy are the front tubs available anymore? Mine is cracked. If not may look for a firm that could mould one??

Nope - none available.

Duncan posted recently about an Italian firm that were manufacturing something reasonable. Not sure whether it was Ph1 or Ph2?

A few members have spoken about manufacturing replacements in the past but none have delivered. Don’t quite know why - perhaps they’re difficult to replicate?

quote="Duncan"]Eros Zanoletti is selling reproduced Ph1 luggage trays in Italy for 370 Euro in the Clio v6 Italia facebook page.

They are not perfect and look a fair bit thicker than standard, but better than nothing.

ps, I cant vouch for them, just saw the post

Never been a fan of fibreglass products! This maybe something worth looking into! Are ph1 and ph2 different?

Welcome to v6 ownership Anthony.

Yes, they are slightly different. However, I believe the Ph2 can be trimmed to fit a Ph1. Im sure it’s to do with the fluid reservoir (passenger side near the bulkhead).
