5 GT Turbo B18ft spark plug disaster!

Hi

Decided to give my Renault 5 B18ft engine a quick service ready for MOT, will be first for several years. 3 plugs out no dramas, fourth was giving me jip so I soaked it in wd40 for half hour and cracked it off with breaker bar... Whoops... Its kind of half in and half out. Whatamagonnado! I don't want pull the head off. The bit left in the head is smooth so nothing to grab. Can't really drill it out coz of the swarth. What about some hardcore chemical fastening stuff on and stick it back in let if go off and try again??

Best ones I have used are by the name of "easyouts"., Irwin tools make a good set too.. but also give this a damn good soaking , in various stuff from WD40, to diesel, engine oil, one thing that works really well on alloy is white vinegar,,,but needs lots and time to soak in... but its cheap as chips..pun intended...Heat is alos your friend here...but not with anything flammable around...

and as soon as its done... give it an oil change to remove anything you have sprayed, poured, soaked it with...

If that was mine I would get a big fat torx bit and hammer the shit out of it on an extension bar and drive it into the body of the plug. I've done it before. You have to really hammer it down hard so the torx star cuts into the metal body of the bit of plug. Lump hammer, give it a pasting.

Once the torx bit (T40 or above) is locked in it should crank out. When its out spin the car over with no plugs in and it'll blow any debris out the plug holes.

Had this challenge a few times and to date never had to take head off. All the soak, shock etc and the right tools. I have some snap on not cheap items and do the trick

If you were not so far you could have used them

Good luck!

Yeah. I've got a good grip with an easy out and managed to get a ratchet on it by turning the extension bar the wrong way round.. Also got a spline socket I could punch in a la Dave style. I'll let it soak bit more and maybe get some heat in

Hammer a torx in, will be a t50 or 55.

The big issue is the fact the pressure is still on the threads as the plugs base is still there. So as mentioned drive it in really well.

This is a common issue sadly I deal with it often, happens on every ford Ka I deal with and a lot of motorbikes as well.

Also from the look of the area around the plug you should have jetwashed the hell out of the thing first.

I've tried the t50 and t55 torx bits but they are just turning, probably because the easy out has chewed the hole a little. The easy out has a good grip but it's not budging, I've repeatedly soaked it in wd40 and scraped lots of rust from around the plug but no sign of budging yet. I can get a load of pressure on it, I've heard mixed things about easy outs but it's got a good grip and I think torx option is no more!
